My cervix is short
When I went to the perinatologist for my growth sono this week, they found that my cervix is measuring a little short (22-24 mm). He said to stay off my feet as much as possible. I told him I'm at a desk most of the day and he said that's fine. When I'm home, I'm not to do anything. I guess this is one step away from bed rest, huh? I"m so nervous.......
I am following up with my regular OB next Friday. I felt totally fine before this growth sono, now since I heard my cervix is short, I'm imagining every little twinge or pressure I feel is something wrong. DH tells me to relax, but it's so hard to do.
I'm 23 weeks.

Re: My cervix is short
The important thing is that it doesn't keep shortening. Have you had it measured before? Are you going back soon? They can put in a cerclage if they find it is getting shorter. 23 weeks is when I started having issues too.. I know how you feel.

I don't remember if they measured it at my level 2 -- if they did, I guess it was normal because they didn't say anything. This is my first growth sono. I go back next Friday....

Re: My cervix is short
I just had my level II on Wednesday (at 21 weeks) and they said my cervix was measuring 2.7 (normally it should be 3.0) I have to go back in two weeks and see if it got shorter. If so then they are going to put in the stitches! I'll pray for both us that everything stays good!

Re: My cervix is short
I had the same issue at 20 weeks. My cervix was 2.7 cm. By 23 weeks it had shortened to 1.5 cm! My dr. didn't put me on bedrest (he is not a believer) but I definitely modified all of my activities severely. I put myself on bedrest at all times while I was at home.
The dr. did start me on weekly progesterone shots which lasted until 35 weeks! I was also not allowed to have sex or exercise. They gave me steroids to develop the baby's lungs. I am now at 37.5 weeks and if you read my earlier post, still VERY pregnant.
My good friend is currently on bedrest, progesterone treatments and a cerclage was put in because she has a history of miscarrying after 20 weeks. She is doing fine at home and her cervix is holding steady.
I will not tell you not to worry, because I have BTDT and I know how impossible it is NOT to worry. I will tell you to rest as much as possible! You'll be in the safe zone soon and feel much more confident!

Michele, did they measure it using a transvag sono?

Re: My cervix is short
same thing happened to me, they put me on bedrest for a week. I seriously did not move that whole week and it went back to normal. I would ask him to write you out of work and stay in bed or on the couch

I am not sure of the exact name, but I know there are two kinds and she got the more "complicated one," if that is any help to you...
She is actually doing very well. She is on strict bedrest, and will probably be for the majority of her pregnancy...

Re: My cervix is short
My cervix was 2.5 at 16 weeks..so they put me on bedrest..and I remained on bedrest for 14 weeks...finally allowed off of it around Thanksgiving. All the while, my cervix went up and down, but averaged about 2.9....I had to go every 2 weeks for a sono to be measured.
I completely know how you feel about every little twinge..I was so afraid of every feeling I got, I was afraid to get up and do things (even though they told me I could use the bathroom, shower, make a sandwich, etc)..I was just paranoid.
So i won't say don't worry, because I know it's impossible not to worry. But try not to worry too much, that's not good for you or the baby either. Just rest as much as you can, and take it easy.
If you have any questions, feel free to FM me. Take care and wish you the best.

Re: My cervix is short
I had the same thing, and was put on bed rest immediately. I was very strict with it, and in 2 weeks my cervix was back to where it should have been . I would ask your doc to write you out of work, and don't lift anything!!!
