Thanks joanna! but i think the poster is correct the most common cause of this tumor is a failed twinning i read that somewhere. which is why its growing so rapidly if im not mistaken
It is being fed by blood vessels...Did Aunt Mare send you pictures of what it *could* look like hoping its not as big?
ETA: I have not heard that it is from failed twinning, I thought it was a growth under the skin by top of the butt, not next to the baby

Baby Hope (thats her name it suits her well!) at 20 weeks was found to have a large tumor on her spine (im sorry i forget the right medical term for it, but its a tumor made of hair, teeth, nail, and skin) Its very rare. Due to its location it mkes it extremely difficult to operate. They are seeing specialist in Philly.
I believe the name of it is a Dermoid cyst. Usually easier to remove but yes, that location would be more tricky.
that surgery is safe and successful

Prayers for your cousin and her baby!!!!!
the tumor is actually called a dermoid. i had one on my ovary and had surgery last year to operate it. the good news with these is that they are non-cancerous or in anyway malignant. However, I did not realize they could grow so rapidly and where it is on the baby is obviously causing complications.
Good luck to the baby.....
