My Dad has Metastatic Liver Cancer , NEED DR ASAP

Hi,

As many of you know, my Dad had esophagael cancer that has metastitized to the liver. He had surgery to remove two spots. Unfortantely, it has now come back with avegence. He has numerous lesions and the Dr. at Mt. Sinai is telling him he is inoperable.

We need to get him a second opinion. I have done some research into Chemoembolization. I read that he should go to a teaching hospital. I was thinking StonyBrook or Winthrop, so he can stay on the Island.

Does anyone pelase know of a great liver dr., surgeon, oncologist, whatever who is affiliated with either of these hospitals. My parents WON"T go to Sloan. They hate Sloan and I have tried to talk to them, but they refuse based on how they were treated there in the past.

What about Columbia PResbyterian. That is where my stepfather went. I am hoping they have better news for you.

My mother's Oncologist is Dr. Weiner in Mineola. He is indeed affiliated with Winthrop hopital. He is at 259 First Street Mineola NY 11501 516-663-0333

ETA She had all of her cancer surgeries at Winthrop & they really were great. All of the affiliated doctors that saw her during her visits were amazing as well.

I heard Winthrop is great. What about The Cleveland Clinic?

I too have heard horrible things about Sloan...

The North Shore/LIJ system is also a teaching hospital, no?

I'm so sorry Denise. I don't know any nephrologists and all of the oncologists I know of are at Sloan.

Don't give up - my mom's neighbor (13 years old) has a really rare form of leukemia. Sloan said there was nothing more they could do for him. He's going some hosptial in the midwest for experimental treatment. He's even able to come home for a few weeks

my dad is a Survivor. He had Stage 3 Hodgkin's back in 1981 and was told he had 8 weeks to live. He's still alive today.

Please see Dr. Ron Bash out of St Catherine's in Smithtown. The man saved my fathers' life and after I grew up, I went in to thank him in person.

LIJ has a large oncology division and they are also a teaching hospital.

I am so sorry Denise. I wish I had some advice or knew of a place to send you. I know my MIL and FIL are very much against Sloan, too. They were treated horribly there when MIL was getting treated. Hang in there. You are in my thoughts and prayers

First and foremost- I am so sorry for all that you are going thru.

Second- Would you consider going out of NY state for treatment? If so, please look into MD Anderson. I am at the start of my research for my own issues but so far this place has come up in SOOOOO much of my research.

I know. We had such hope, and things sound so negative. I want my parents to go for a second opinion, but they are so "trusting" in their drs...

I am at the end of my rope. Between being a new Mom and this (and financial troubles because I am not working), things are very hard for me these days....

PS. I read about you Grandpa. I am so sorry I never got to tell you how hard I have been praying. I am so glad no lymph nodes are involved. I have been meaning to write you just having a difficult time.

How is your Mom and Aunt doing??
