forget long island- you need to get him to Solan Kettering- they have a branch on LI where he can go for treatment- but Solan Kettering is the best
they kept my Mom alive for 2 years when she was told she had 3 months to live
I am sorry you have to go thru this- I wouldn't wish this on my worst enmey-

Dr. Mansoor Beg- he is a surgical oncoligist in Great Neck associated with NSUH.

I did a year of a surgical residency at LIJ/Manhasset... I agree Sloan is the leader in cancer care... (i worked there before medical school)
But LIJ top liver guy is Dr. Ravikumar (sp?) He is amazing, he takes cases other MDs won't.

I agree as well. Sloan is one of the best cancer hospitals i know. My brother has had cancer 3 times since he was 14. I'm conviced Sloans saved his life. He did goto ST Catherines one night when we he was very sick and we couldn't get him to Sloans in time. I don't know what DR he saw though.

My dad had a situation with his liver that the doctors in LIJ gave up on him but my uncle found a doctor in Cornell that was optimistic that he could save my dad if I could get him out of LIJ and to him, unfortunetly my dad's blood pressure was so low and LIJ induced him into a coma that he never came out of so we didnt have a chance but I would look into Cornell. My DH's uncle just passed away May 17th from melonoma (sp?) liver cancer.
Anyway, allt he dr.'s here tld him there was nothing they could do. That was back in March of '05. He wound up finding a dr. in Philly who would take him on as a case study. He underwent all forms of treatments as experiments and they worked. His original diagnosis was 6 months but he wound up living a year and a half. Eventually the cancer spread to his brain and bones and there was truly nothing left to do.
If I can I'll see if I can get Uncle Tommy's Dr.'s name in Philly and pass it along.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

My best friend recenty beat her battle with breast cancer and is a patient of Sloan Kettering in Manhattan.

I work at Stony Brook Univ Hospital and I highly recommend Dr. Martin Karpeh. He has a great personality and was voted one of the best doctors in NY. And one of his specialities is hepatoblastomas.
Try 631-444-2565 or 631-444-4545 for an appointment.

Thank you so much... We actually met Dr. Karpeh at the Cancer Survivors Day at Stony Brook University a few weeks ago.
What a nice event Stony Brook holds.
Dr. Karpeh was VERY nice.. The only thing is he is surgeon. My Dad is not able to have surgery at the moment. He recommended his associate, Dr. Madjewholitz (sp?).
My Dad has seen him already for a second opinion, and he recommends starting a clinical trial.
My Dad is scheduled for scans in August.
Thank you so much for the recommendation. What do you do at Stony Brook?

Yes, Dr. Karpeh is a surgeon. As for Dr. Madajewicz, he is awesome. His story is one that truly moves your heart. He grew up in Poland when he was little with very little money. His dad died of cancer when he was little and decided to become a physician. He is a great guy with true passion for his work. He is also ranked highly at Stony Brook. His accent can be tough at times but you get past it. I highly recommend him as well.
I work in hospital administration at SBUH.

Wow. What a bittersweet story.
He does sound like a wonderful man, and I know Dr. Karpeh is. I wish I would have been able to go with them and meet him. Maybe next time they go.
I really wish my parents would have found these two doctors sooner. My parents never really liked their oncologist, but stuck with him out of fear. I feel he really hasn't tried to get my Dad's cancer under control. Now, it doesn't sound good. :(
I thank you, though. I am hoping to get better news with these new scans. You never know. Miracles do happen!
