My DD wearing her Easter dress to a 1st birthday party?
We were invited to a family's 1st birthday for their DD which will be at a hall or restauraunt. They will have a D/entertaient. Would it be fine if my DD wore her Easter purple satin tank dress? It has a layered ruffle bottom, an accent on the side...I wish I had a pic of it because my concern I think is if it would be too much / over dressed for a party that's not hers. My daughter is 2.
This is not the dress but similar:

I would ask the family member if they mind and if not go for it. If you were wearing a similar dress that would be a different story but little ones can totally pull off a more formal look.

Wear it - it's a party and your daughter is wearing a party dress.

Maybe it's me ......but I don't ask permission to dress my children a certain way. It's a party, she's wearing a party dress. I don't think it's 'too much' at all - who cares if it's 'her' party? It's not like showing up to someone's wedding wearing a wedding gown yourself !
Personally, I'm insulted when people show up to a party w/ their kids iinappropriately dressed n shorts and a tshirt. But that's me - we are always over dressed.

I have to disagree. I think it's too much dress for another kid's party. I'm not sure that I really think that bc you don't want to " outshine" the birthday girl, I just think it's too dressy in general.

Re: My DD wearing her Easter dress to a 1st birthday party?
I agree with what others have written... typically. I doll my kids up for weddings, Easter, dinners out.
But there are family members who I "tone it down" for.
I didn't dress my DD in a party dress for my niece's Xing because I knew her dress was going to be simple. She wore a simple, pink dress. Likewise, I wore a simple dress as godparent because I knew what my sister's dress (sweater dress) was.
As a 5 year old, I remember a neighbor coming decked out in a full princess party dress (my parents never bought those), when I was wearing an overall dress. It wasn't a good feeling.
A good way to feel it out is to ask for a preview of the 1 year old's outfit. If it's all glam, go for it!

I think its too much for a party but i don't dress my kids up for anything. even Easter for me is pants and a button down that we had in the closet.

My DD wearing her Easter dress to a 1st birthday party?
My DD wears what I think is appropriate for the occasion. I wouldn't ask the host, and if I knew my DD would be running around I would have her in casual clothing, because she's a run around and get messy kind of girl. If it is more of a formal party, then put her in that dress. I would hope that a grown woman is not going to be offended by your daughter wearing something too formal or informal. I would hope she would be more focused on it being her daughters birthday.

I would put it on her! It seems like the perfect occasion for it. I WISH my daughter would wear dresses. She is the biggest tomboy around.

I would never ask permission to wear something, that is actually funny. With that said though, the dress looks like a flower girl type dress to me, or something you would wear as a guest to a wedding. I personally wouldn't put it on my child for a birthday party. But to each their own.

I would put her in the dress. I would never ask the host permission if it was ok. I always dress my girls in some type of dress for a 1st birthday party if it is at a hall type place. If it is at a bounce house place pants and a tshirt but at a hall that dress is fine.

I know right? It kills me how our society is becoming. We have to worry about stepping on everyone's toes. Don't wear white to a bridal shower because now all of a sudden the bride owns the corner on white from the second the ring goes on her finger until she walks down the aisle. Ask permission for your 2 year old to wear a dress to a party- god FORBID she outshine the guest of honor who happens to be ONE year old and crapping her pants and drooling.
What next?
I feel like flipping the bird to the world lately!

Re: My DD wearing her Easter dress to a 1st birthday party?
I think it is a beautiful dress, and as a guest to a wedding it would be perfect, but as a gust to someone else's first birthday party it looks too dressy. I would not want my DD to look like she was competing with the birthday child so I personally would not put my DD in that dress for someone else's birthday party. I would have her wear a different dress. It is a beautiful dress though.

Re: My DD wearing her Easter dress to a 1st birthday party?
I would definitely if any of my friends or family asked me permission to dress their child a certain way. At my child's birthday party, I am focusing on my own kid- I could really care less how anyone else dressed their kid. I sometimes feel though that I am so laid back, with my kids, and with life in general, that I am weird.
