My giganto baby!
I'm 34 weeks, and had my first NST and BPP today at my doctor's visit. I have GD so we're keeping an eye on the baby's size. This was the first BPP of now WEEKLY BPPs to measure the baby's growth.
Here's the shocking part. I thought I was going to fall off the table. it was almost horrifying!!
My baby is weighing in at 6 lbs. 11 oz!!!
And I still have 6 weeks to go! Last time I had a sono which was 5 weeks ago it was 3 lbs 11 oz so it's growing RAPIDLY it seems.
The doctor just said "that's a big baby" but he doesn't seem very worried. I will be going for BPPs every week now to keep an eye on things, but he said we're not changing the due date. He said with you have GD sometimes the lungs develop even later, like 38, 39 or even 40 weeks, so he wants me to go as full-term as possible.
Personally, I'm ready to deliver my baby already!
I'm just in shock! -Melissa

Re: My giganto baby!
Just remember, it's an estimate on size. Sonograms can be off by a pound or so. Are you measuring big?
It sounds like a healthy baby!

Re: My giganto baby!
That's what I'm getting worried about! If the baby is like 12 lbs I'll probably have to have a c-section which I didn't want to happen. But if it's less then that, like 9 or 10 lbs and they do want me to have a vag delivery, man, i'm just so nervous and I'm getting terrified. i took lamaze and I read EVERYTHING and I was totally telling myself that I'm prepared and now I'm just really really scared!!!

Re: My giganto baby!
Wow, you have yourself a very healthy , content baby there!!
I have heard that often the estimates are "off" so you never know.... this might be the size your baby is born, even though you have a bit of time yet!
Glad to hear all is OK, that's the important part

Re: My giganto baby!
I know they said my sister in law was having a 12 lb baby and so they did a c-section and it turns out that her baby was only 10 lbs. but still! i'm still nervous. i really want them to send me to the special perinatal place for a sono because the machines at my dr's office is so old, but my dr says it isn't necessary and it won't be covered my insurance inless he gives me the referal for it.
i go to the perinatal place on thursday for a diabetes check up so i'll see what the think! maybe they'll give me a sono anyway!

Re: My giganto baby!
There's no reason that your OB shouldn't let you at least labor on your own before determining that you can't have a v-birth. Don't stress about it. Just read up about it and be prepared for which ever situation arises.

Re: My giganto baby!
That sounds really big but have no fear- I delivered a 9lbs 10 oz baby vaginally with no problems- only a teeny weeny tear requiring 1 stitch thats it and I am a really small girl. I was 115 lbs 5'6" pre preggo. I never found out how big the baby was before giving birth- the doctor estimated by feeling me that he was 8.5 lbs but he was off. Now had they known that may have pushed c section- im glad they didnt. Women are able to birth very large babies with no complications.

Re: My giganto baby!
Lol, I just e-mailed my husband at work and told him it's making me nervous and his reply was
"Maybe because the baby is so big it'll just plop out"
Lol. He's crazy!!

Re: My giganto baby!
Hey don't worry.... I delivered a 10lb 3oz baby vaginally. The doctor did have to cut.
The good thing is that you are having sonograms weekly so they can monitor the baby's size. I didn't have a sonogram after 28 weeks so the doctor had no idea he was going to be that big. At my last visit (3 days before I gave birth), she said he'd probably be a little over 8lbs - boy was she off!

Re: My giganto baby!
yes, remember they are only estimates! the docs thought my boy would be huge since his sister was 8lbs and being that he was my 3rd and a male, they estimated 9- 9 1/2 pounder, well, he was 6lb 10oz, they were waaaaaay off!

Re: My giganto baby!
What the heck does shoe size have to do with it??
Do you know something I don't know?

Re: My giganto baby!
OMG- I posted a thread not to long ago... I had heard a myth about women usually give birth to babies around there shoe size...
We did a poll on the parenting board... and this myth was proved like 75% (or maybe more) true...
So I was just curious...

Re: My giganto baby!
Wow!!!
As long as your baby is healthy right?!?! Try not to stress over it too much...they could be off a little...and if the shoe size thing is pretty accurate a 9 lb baby is ok and you'll still be able to deliver vag.

Re: My giganto baby!
Hehee, thanks for all the encouragement everyone.
Even 9 lbs scares me, lol, but I know it's possible!
My mom somehow got lucky with her smaller babies and fast fast deliveries. 4.5 lbs, 6.10 and 6.10...I was hoping I'd take after her!!

Re: My giganto baby!
babies gain about 1/2 pound a week at the end...so that would be about 3 pounds more..9 lb 10 oz is a big, but fine size baby...

Re: My giganto baby!
Don't worry too much - remember your body was meant to have babies!!!
Kevin always measured ahead and big and was 7lbs 2 oz - but three weeks early.
My SIL all along was told her baby was gigantic and huge and the drs kept scaring her with the measurements and they watched the size almost retested her for GD. The day they induced her her sono measured 10lbs and the drs were arguing that she needed a c - she delivered naturally and the baby was 8 and change and over a week late....so proof they could be way off.
