My HSG is scheduled
For Monday afternoon.
And I'm SO nervous. I'm a huge baby when it comes to needles, blood, pain, etc.
I weasled DH into taking the afternoon off to come with me

Re: My HSG is scheduled
Good luck! It's the anticipation that's the worst part.
Blow-by-blow (this is how mine was, I'm sure at different places its a little different): - completely undress and put on a gown - get on big table with x-ray machine in the middle, bend your knees and put feet flat on the table - insert speculum like for a pap - thread the catheter in (slight cramping) - shoot in the dye (ouch!!) - push yourself up on the table so you're laying flat - 2 xrays flat, then roll to each side and get an xray of each side - pull everything out and you are done!
The whole thing takes about 5 minutes. When I stood up, holy leakage - it was dripping down my legs (sorry, gross TMI).
I asked the radiologist if he saw anything and he said everything looked great. I had to ask him since technically I don't think they are allowed to tell you anything.
Good luck!

Re: My HSG is scheduled
Take this from someone who cannot even walk into a medical facility without passing out.....(and no, I'm not exagerrating!) The anticipation was sooooooo much worse than the procedure itself. I sobbed like a baby through the whole thing because they wouldn't let DH in with me, and I had also taken a xanex before hand, I felt like a complete idiot afterwards when I was like "that's it?"
I've become quite brave now that I'm at the RE every few days it seems. I don't even need to bring DH with me anymore! you have NO idea how huge that is for me. I was so bad that I have on more than one occassion fainted during a pap Trust me... you'll be fine!!!

Ohhh I'm a big fainter too! It got so bad when I was younger that my doc wouldn't take blood in his office, and sent me to the hospital instead! (I start shaking when I pass out because I'm in such a state of shock).
I'll just have to remember to drink lots of orange juice before the procedure so my blood sugar stays up.
Thanks ladies!

Re: My HSG is scheduled
People have varying degrees of pain. I experienced no pain at all, but I think I am in the minority. I would definitely take something beforehand. good luck!!

This is how it was for me too. I felt a slight pinching when the catheter was inserted; no real pain when the dye was inserted. There was a TV above my head, so I was able to see the whole thing, which I thought was really cool. ( I watch too many medical/surgery programs on the Discovery channel )
Good luck!!! You'll be fine!!

Good luck!! I can't add anymore than anyone else - just reiterate to take a couple Motrin an hour before to help with the cramping.

Re: My HSG is scheduled
I haven't had this lovely experience yet...but let me just say that I'm glad I'm not the only grown woman who acts like a small child with stuff like this! My first few paps were so traumatic for me, they actually asked if I had ever been raped!
I do have a question, though--why is a catheter needed?

Re: My HSG is scheduled
It wasn't too bad for me, either. Quick, sharp pain when the dye went in. Not sure how people with blocked tubes feel, but let's just hope you don't have that. You have that precious little girl of yours, so let's just hope everything is in the clear.
Good luck to you!
