My Job Search Pet Peeve
I am a very courteous person (or at least I think I am) and I hate it when you go on an interview and you never hear back from the company...even after a thank you note or a followup phone call.
This has happened twice now. A company I am interested in: went on the interview and was under the impression that I did very well. I go on vacation, come back, followup (after my initial letter) and still no call back.
Before this one, it happened with another company and I ended up calling twice, with one email.
I don't understand - if I didn't get the job, send a form letter to my home or an email at least to say it's been filled!!!!
Anyone else have pet peeves in job searching?

Re: My Job Search Pet Peeve
I'm glad I'm not alone. I'd love to hear an HR perspective on this topic.
It really bothers me because I am a good judge of character and can tell when someone doesn't like me or whatever.
For the first job, I knew he wouldn't call. But for the second, I just thought that they really were into me. I called them yesterday and have gotten no response. Just tell me if it's filled!
I actually called another yesterday too - and I think I caught the guy...he seemed to feel like a trapped rat when I got him on the phone!

Re: My Job Search Pet Peeve
that bothers me too. they expect follow up calls and thank you letters from the interviewee, but oftentimes the interviewer doesn't have the courtesy of a "no thanks" form letter. you get your hopes up and then are let down

Re: My Job Search Pet Peeve
the whole job search is such a roller coaster
I was so happy to get a call from one company
thinking it was to arrange an interview
it turned in to a phone interview on the spot-
then I was defeated
only to then get a call from another company to lift my hopes again
up and down
no wonder I have gone thru 2 bottles of wine already since friday and I just opened my 3rd!

Re: My Job Search Pet Peeve
This is 100% a peeve of mine as well. That said, I know that the company I work for is one of those companies that does not contact you post interview unless they are contacting you for another interview or to offer a job etc.
I believe the reason they do not send out any kind of form letter like "thank you for meeting with us we will keep you in mind/your resume on file etc, is because it has something to do with hr liabilities and legal issues. It is safer for them to do nothing at all, but sucks for those of us waiting to hear.

Ha! That's what I need to do.
I feel the same way as you do. One day I'll be on cloud 9 because it seems like I am a shoe-in for a job I WANT. Then, the next it's gone.
Right now, I have a 2nd interview scheduled but I'm not "really into" the position as of right now. But I've been "told" I'm the frontrunner.
It's always the ones you want least.
I have another pet peeve. I know you "shouldn't" ask the salary of these jobs but I went on 3 interviews in Jersey, took time off of work, only to find out that the position listed was for a salary RIDICULOUSLY LOWER THAN MY SALARY.
I just don't get why they won't give you a RANGE at least!

I think having them not share the salary (at least a range) is even a bigger pet peeve for me then the lack of follow up. I totally think it is unfair for them to waste your time with a position that doesn't pay what you need to make. I also find it interesting that companies have no problem asking us to provide a salary range, often in the cover letter, however they won't tell us what the job they are offerring pays.
