My parents house went on fire last night!
Everyone got out and was ok 
It started in my brothers bedroom , it was an electrical outlet that his bed was pushed up against. He was not home. My other brother heard the smoke alarm and looked into the bedroom and saw orange. Apparantly it took the smoke detector a while to go off bc the fire was initally buring right out the window. All the bedrooms are destroyed (basically the entire upstairs) and the entire kitchen, which my brothers floor caved in and fell into.
PSA*** - I was talking to the fire marshall and he said he sees fires like this all the time, especially in kids room  bc they jump on the bed and if something is plugged into the outlet and the bed is right up against it, the friction can cause a fire. He said the bed should be at least 6 inches from the outlet. He also mentioned he sees extension cords go on fire a lot. If you are going to use them , dont buy the cheap ones.
I just feel bad for my family. My one brother, where the fire started has NOTHING except the clothes on his back.

I'm so glad everyone was okay and not hurt, but so sorry this happened.

Expensive, "good" ones or otherwise, extension cords are NOT meant for long-term or permanent use. They are meant for SINGLE uses. They are not meant to be plugged in all the time for lamps, alarm clocks, and other things you keep plugged in all the time. They are for a one time "we're having a party and need to plug in an extra lamp for a few hours" or something like that. Never leave extension cords plugged in all the time.
When we bought our house, the geniuses who owned it before us ran extension cords everywhere - including THROUGH THE WALLS. Needless to say, the first thing we did was remove all of them.

Thanks Goodness everything is OK. The insurance companies are pretty good with paying a partial clain up front so your brother can get some new clothes. If he does buy anything make sure he saves the receipts for full reimbursement value otherwise they depreciate items

So sorry! I'm gald everyone is okay.
My house that I lived in with my sister, BIL and 4 nephews burned down 3 1/2 years ago. It's hard especially when you lose all your stuff, but you realize that it's more important that your family is okay .

thanks everyone. We went to Kohls today so everyone can get underwear, socks, clothes, etc. My parents just need to save the receipts so the insurance comp can reimburse them. They can buy more stuff once the ins comp cuts a check.
