My son is in the hospital-UPDATED 1-20 in 1st post
My son woke up with severe stomach pain Sunday morni g. I took him to the ER where they thought he had appendicitis after doing a pelvic ct they saw fluid around his kidney. They transferred us by ambulance to a local children's hospital where they did a second ct and found that he has a blockage in one Of his kidneys. They believe it is congenital and he has had a it from birth a d something just irritated it recently. He is having a renal scan today and will most likely have surgery tomorrow. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Sorry for tops on iphone
Update: Thank you everyone foryour well wishes and prayers. Keep them coming. I am so scared. This is Ronan by the way(poor guy has all the issues it seems) Some of you may remember I had posted about my son having back pain in the summer. He was seen 3 times by the ped. 1st time-keep an eye on it. 2nd time x-ray. 3rd time blood work. All with normal results. In the end I moved his car seat straps up and he never complained again.
We recently started complaining about belly pain on an off. It never affected his sleep, eating or playing so I figured it was normal toddler constipation. I also asked teh Dr at his 3 yr well appt and she said probably due to an issue of potty training/constipation etc.
We ended up speaking to the urologist yesterday. He told us this is a relatively common problem. After the surgery and recuperation he should have no further issues. His kidney is functioning although it is not releasing any urine at all, his other kidney is making up for it. The dr just called my DH and they want to do the surgery tomorrow. It is a regular surgery(not laproscopic) They will remove the clogged part of the tube that runs from the kidney to the bladder, place a stent in that area and then sew it up. Then the stent will be removed a couple of weeks later. Thanks again for all the support and I will try to update tomorrow
Update 1-20. He did great through the surgery. Ended up his ureter(tube from the kidney to the bladder) was very swollen and also had a kink in it. This was probably developed in utero. The Dr removed the bad part and sewed it back together with a stent inside. The stent will be removed in two weeks in an outpatient procedure. He is in pain and complaining about peeing since that hurts as well. I cannot wait for him to feel better. Thanks for all your well wishes and prayers.
If anyone is curious..his only symptoms were vomiting about 3 different times over 6 months, back pain that seemed to resolve itself and on teh day we found out about the problem, severe belly pain.

The 20 mins after the 2nd ct were the lomgest of my life. I still feel like I am about to jump out of my skin and puke all at once. They just told me he needs a cath and that's another thing

Hang in there! Sounds like he has the same congenital kidney defect I have..... which wasn't discovered until I was 33 years old and had just given birth to my 2nd child!
I have what's called a UPJ obstruction of the left kidney. I was most likely born with it. Where the kidney drains to the ureter, there is a blockage and over time, the urine builds up and crystallizes in the kidneys..
The surgery I had to repair it was an hour or two - basically they lasered the blockage open and then placed a stent in there to heal around it so it would remain open. I was home in a few hours and pain free. The stent was removed after 6 weeks in just a simple visit (no surgery) and nearly 6 years later, not one issue since!
