My update (long)

Thanks to all of you who gave me words of encouragement and hugs. It meant a lot. I went home yesterday and talked myself into having a positive attitude. DH gave me a huge hug when I got home and that felt better. I made it through the night without really thinking about it.

I just got back from the doctor. He checked me out and said he saw no blood (good sign). He did a sonogram and showed me the yolk in the sac. I did not have a yolk with my last m/c so we knew this was a better sign already. He said it was still really too early to see anything but he said he wouldn't worry just yet. He showed that I was measuring 5w6d which confused me. I used the CBEFM and know I peaked late. I thought I was 5 weeks today.

Anyway, I feel better that there was a yolk this time but I am concerned still since most of you said that by 5 weeks you were able to see a heartbeat. I barely saw a yolk. It was a blip on the screen. I am going back in 2 weeks and he has the sonogram tech doing the sono and then I immediately follow up with the doctor.

It is going to be a long 2 weeks Chat Icon but I am going to stay positive and hope for the best.

The heart doesn't begin beating until the 6th week, so if somebody saw it at 5 weeks, they have an amazing story. Glad to know things went well and I pray for sticky vibes for you!!!

Re: My update (long)

Great news! From what I've heard you can't always hear the heartbeat at 5 weeks, so I wouldn't worry about that.
We didn't try to hear ours until week 10, and even then it was faint.

Thanks ladies. You are making me feel better already. DH said he thought it looked bigger and better this time around and that he has more faith than he did that this is going to be a good pregnancy.

I had a sono at 5 weeks and five days because like you I was bleeding. I was able to see a heartbeat but I was going to be six weeks in two days. The doctor said that it isn't rare not to see one that early. There are people that see heartbeats at 5 weeks because it was posted a couple of weeks ago but there are also people that don't see it till 6 or 7 weeks. Everyone is different. I am sure that everything will work out fine for you!

Can I ask how big the baby looked at that sono? Do you have a pic from it? I am a little weirded out at how small it was and how it was barely there.

Re: My update (long)

That is some good news!

The sonos that early on are a better predictor of the DD than any other method, accourding to my Dr.

I had a sono at 5w 4d, and we were only able to see a faint blip that the tech said was the HB, but it was very very faint and took about 20 minutes to find. Even the Dr said that it is highly unusual to see anything that early.

Try to think positive thoughts and Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon until your next visit.

What is DD? Thanks.

The faint blip I saw was what the doctor said was the yolk. The entire thing.

Re: My update (long)

I also had a MC previously and when I found out I was preganant I was a ball of nerves. When I went to the dr at 6 weeks they saw the yold sack but no heart beat yet. Which the dr told me was normal. But I syill was scarred. Anyhow my next appt was at the end of 8 weeks and there was a heart beat.
I really believe it is way to early to see a heart beat.

I had a sono last week - at which my dr estimated me to be 5w6d. There was a fetal pole and a heartbeat. But the doc said that had we come a couple of days earlier - we would not have been able to see the heartbeat. Every day makes a difference in the beginning. One day the heartbeat might not be there - and the next day it could be there. Also, the doc could be a day or 2 off on how far along you are at this point. From what I understand, being off even a milimeter on the size of the embryo (or whatever it is at this stage) can be the difference in a couple of days in terms of dating the pregnancy.

I know it's hard, but try to stay positive!Chat Icon

Eta - the blip that we saw was pretty small too...and half of it was a pulsating light which the doc said was the h/b.
