Naked Cake part two
a while ago, i asked you peeps that what you thought about naked cakes.
overall, you said Nay.
my follow-up question is this:
would you still dislike it if it was perfect for the theme?
SO's daughter's baby shower is in august. i'll be gifting her the cake. the theme is "And so the adventure begins" with a woodland vibe.
i'm seeing a lot of naked cakes that look earthy/tree-like.
or should i stick with a traditionally frosted cake with woodland decorations?
when i ask the mommy-to-be, she just replies "whatever you want." grumble grumble! lol

Re: Naked Cake part two
i can see something like this working, but as a fan of frosting, i would be sad it's missing.

Naked Cake part two
I’m happy whenever anyone puts cake of any kind in front of me.
If it fits the theme and tastes good, go for it. If people don’t like it, more cake for everyone else.

Yes, - Hopefully this question will help you find the answer you are looking for: Is the purpose of having the cake to have people eat and enjoy it? Or is it a decoration, to be looked at and admired?

Naked Cake part two
Serious question- if you were at a party and naked cake were served to you, would you refuse to eat it?

I like the naked cakes. There is still frosting inside some of them, or some type of filling. its not like you are getting dry cake.

I sorta like a naked cake, there is still frosting in the middle right- that seems acceptable

No, but I would comment to the other guests that’s it’s bullshitt without icing

Seriously? I can't tell if you guys are serious or kidding.
Why does it matter if the cake has icing on the outside or not? I like how it looks.
OP- I'd go for it.

I was very serious. I was not buying that anyone would turn down a piece of cake because it didn’t have enough icing, hence why the OP should do whatever she wants and naked cake is fine.
I’m pretty sure Mrs213 was kidding.

I would eat it, but I think icing is part of the cake experience to me. Otherwise it’s kinda dry and boring! But to me, the icing is the best part. I like my cupcakes with a good inch of frosting piled on top

Re: Naked Cake part two
Naked cakes look unfinished to me. And a little pretentious. And actually the more I look at that pic mags linked, the more it's making me irrationally angry to look at that cake lol. I so dislike some trends. If people don't like frosting they can always eat around it, but if they prefer the frosting to the actual cake they're shit out of luck with that dry piece of melba toast that's pretending to pass itself off as a cake lol.
I never tasted one and I'm sure it tastes fine. But, it just looks like you're serving a loaf of bread with a cream cheese schmear. The first one chilltocam posted looks infinitely better, more rustic, more in keeping with the theme, and most importantly isn't evoking a quiet rage inside me

I would probably take a bite or two, but I don’t like sweet things very much anymore. When I used to like cake, I liked the icing the best.
So my answer is that I don’t really like cake.

: Best response on the thread. The naked cake in that link looks hideous if you want to know the truth. And dry AF

Serious question- if you were at a party and naked cake were served to you, would you refuse to eat it?
Before reading this post I would've said "naked cake? What's that? Is that like one of those naughty penis cakes served at bachelorette parties and gay bakeries?? Nah, cake is cake so pass the foreskin along." But, after reading this thread and seeing that "thing" that's pretending to be a cake mags linked, I find myself answering this question with "if I was at a party and that thing was on the table, I might have to "accidentally" kick the table over when no one was looking." (But seriously, what is that thing?? I didn't read a word on that blog entry, but it seems like she's proud of that hot turd seeing as how it's the first pic she posted of her otherwise joyful event).
And I surprised myself. Bc I never thought I had such strong opinions about cake. So, this thread has taught me something about myself.
Next thing brought to you by millenials: naked oreos. Dry pieces of gluten-free chocolate crackers with the filling scraped out and used to fashion a device to save whales.

Out of the ones i found, this one looked the most ok. LOL but i agree. Cake needs frosting preferably whipped cream frosting. to this day, DS eats only the frosting on his cupcakes/cakes and gives me the cake. OP whichever way you go it will be wonderful because your party planning skills are amazing.
