Naked cakes look unfinished to me. And a little pretentious. And actually the more I look at that pic mags linked, the more it's making me irrationally angry to look at that cake lol. I so dislike some trends. If people don't like frosting they can always eat around it, but if they prefer the frosting to the actual cake they're shit out of luck with that dry piece of melba toast that's pretending to pass itself off as a cake lol.
I never tasted one and I'm sure it tastes fine. But, it just looks like you're serving a loaf of bread with a cream cheese schmear. The first one chilltocam posted looks infinitely better, more rustic, more in keeping with the theme, and most importantly isn't evoking a quiet rage inside me
: Best response on the thread. The naked cake in that link looks hideous if you want to know the truth. And dry AF
Out of the ones i found, this one looked the most ok. LOL but i agree. Cake needs frosting preferably whipped cream frosting. to this day, DS eats only the frosting on his cupcakes/cakes and gives me the cake. OP whichever way you go it will be wonderful because your party planning skills are amazing.
I saw some on pinterest that were kind of in between that one and a traditional cake, so it was naked but with considerably more frosting. I guess that's a happy medium. But I agree OP, jokes aside, whatever you choose will be awesome and the mom to be is lucky to have someone like you in her life who cares so much about celebrating her and her baby

Serious question- if you were at a party and naked cake were served to you, would you refuse to eat it?
Before reading this post I would've said "naked cake? What's that? Is that like one of those naughty penis cakes served at bachelorette parties and gay bakeries?? Nah, cake is cake so pass the foreskin along." But, after reading this thread and seeing that "thing" that's pretending to be a cake mags linked, I find myself answering this question with "if I was at a party and that thing was on the table, I might have to "accidentally" kick the table over when no one was looking." (But seriously, what is that thing?? I didn't read a word on that blog entry, but it seems like she's proud of that hot turd seeing as how it's the first pic she posted of her otherwise joyful event).
And I surprised myself. Bc I never thought I had such strong opinions about cake. So, this thread has taught me something about myself.
Next thing brought to you by millenials: naked oreos. Dry pieces of gluten-free chocolate crackers with the filling scraped out and used to fashion a device to save whales.
You’d eat that turd cake and you know it.
If only it could be covered in naked oreos
