Name change- i changed my mind....
hayden=out...i think i am just sick of saying it, since it has been the name since i was like, 23 weeks...and me and greg really just like the name
Ali....
MIL is so annoying, saying that we have to name her a full name like alison in order for us to call her ali....i think not....its such a pretty and simple name (to me).....
maybe Ali Paige....AP....and we can even call her leelee (i love those names where u can call kids leellee and lulu)....
what do u guys think...??

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
Honestly, I like I formal name, like Alison that you can shorten to Ali. Will she feel silly in her professional life being known as Ali? At least if she has a formal name, even if you never use it yourself, she has options when she's older.
My formal name is Catherine, my parents always called my Cathy, I didn't know until I went to Kindergarten that my name was Catherine.
I'm sorry, I hope you don't take that the wrong way.

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
I like it! Except, I sort of agree with your MIL. I think it's nice to have the 'full' name ... especially when she gets older, she may want to have a more "formal" name for business or something.

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
Ali as in short for Alison?
Or just Ali? If it is just Ali, imo it is a bit childish for a full name, meaning as an adult i don't think i would like a name that is really a short/nickname of another name.
Alison is a pretty name though

I like both Ali and Hayden, however I agree that she should have a more formal name for when she's older.

I kind of agree with your MIL, thats why we named DD Alyssa. Both DH and I LOVED the name Aly but thought she should have a "full" name so we chose Alyssa and we shorten it to Aly...OH,and - I call her LeeLe all of the time!

I like Ali. My Mother always says you need a formal name... No, you don't. It's your baby- name her whatever you like!
My DD is Ava- we call her Lily and Lolly all the time. I don't know where these names came from...

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
i dont see anything wrong with naming your child an "informal" name.. if i have another girl one day i am considering Lexi.. do what you really wanna do. and besides, didnt many common names these days start out as longer, more "formal names" anyway?

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
Love Ali. But I agree with the previous posters, that I would do a full name. Are you going to hate me because I sided with your MIL But it can be done, and its YOUR choice, so go for what YOU want. My full name is Patricia and I have hardly ever used it.
ETA: love LeeLee, as you know I call Lauren "LaurLaur".

not saying it reminds me of him too, but since you mentioned it- what about if you spelled it Allie?

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
I kind of agree with the PPs and your MIL. We named DD a more formal name but call her by the shortened name. I figure if she wants to go into politics or become an attorney she can go by the formal name.
What about the name Aliya? Or spelled Aleigha - isn't Hannah's middle name Leigh? It can kind of be after her big sister, and you can call her Ali. I mentioned that name to DH once - I really like the name Ali!

I agree with everyone else. Ali is a great name - but I think Alyson for when she gets older - if she wants it - but at least she has the option.

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
YOU KNOW I LOVE IT!!!!
See I ALWAYS loved the name Alison, and we loved Ali for short so that is why we named her Alison. But we NEVER call her Alison - ever.
But I honestly would name the baby what you want. I think Ali is 'formal' as well. Why does it have to be a 'full name' ya know.

I don't see anything wrong with naming her Ali if that is what you like. My DH is Chris, not and formal version of Chris and his sister is Cathy.

Me too. Like both. And I don't think you need something formal. IMO, Ali's along the lines of Lilly, Jodi, Molly, etc, and those name aren't too young.

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
Well my formal name is Cindy, not Cynthia, not anything else but Cindy. I get all the time (when making travel plans or filling out paperwork), is it Cynthia?
Truly I like my name & if it was Cynthia I don't think I'd ever use it. YET if I went another route & instead of becoming a teacher was an attorney or dr. or in the business field I would feel I'd be taken more seriously w/ a name like Cynthia than Cindy.
If I was naming my daughter I think I'd give her the option.
What about a name that ends w/ Ally or LY & you can still call her alli?

Re: Name change- i changed my mind....
I'm also a formal name person. I think b/c I'm a professional I feel like they need to have a full name for those kinds of situations, commencement, wedding, work, etc. My nephew is Rusty and obviously my SIL can do what she wants but I don't see him becoming president of the U.S. or Supreme Court Justice with the name Rusty, KWIM? Same thing with Ali, Judge Ali ... just doesn't sound right to me so I'd be worried that it would feel weird to her later in life.
