Name spin off - how did you go about starting your search?

I got a few books and DH and I are starting to look randomly through and talking, but it doesn't seem very systematic and we're not coming up with many - DH doesn't like most of what I do.

We decided on the letters we would use based on who we were naming our DC after which is Jewish tradition. That helped us narrow names down. Luckily, DH and I agreed quickly and we have a boys name and a girls name now.

I want to carry on names of people in our family, but maybe not identical to them, maybe symbolic of them. Still running a few past DH, he doesn't like anything I like, but in the end only my opinion matters Chat Icon lol jk, well work it out Chat Icon

Middle names were eady. Girls middle name is for my mom, boys middle name is for dh's uncle who passed away years ago.

I've loved my boys name forever so I decided if I have a girl to name her that too!

same here...We knew that we were going with F for the first name and an A or H for the middle name.

I feel you!

It's so much easier when people have a specific letter or letters in mind.

We got the book (thanks to LB's recommendation!) The Complete Book of Baby Names .

I like it because in the beginning, it has a TON of different lists (small ones - so it's not overwhelming) with names - divided into boy/girl (in 2 columns). And then in the back, it has names by letter that are also divided into a boy and girl section.

Re: Name spin off - how did you go about starting your search?

When I had been PG with Abigail, we had to name after relatives who were deceased. The Jewish tradition and honor is to give them the Hebrew names of those people and if we could find a corresponding initial to their names in English, we would use it. We picked Hebrew names first and then English names from the Old Testament. The initials did not match, however, it did not matter.

That being said, DH made a list of names, I made a list of names and we canceled out the names on each others' list that we didn't like. Then we chose from what we were left with.

with DS, once we knew it was a boy, we knew the letters we wanted to use. after that finding his name was easy.

with this one, we are going letter by letter in the baby name book Chat Icon

I went page by page through a baby name book, made a list of about 20 each and will give the list to DH to discuss. We have to come up with four first names so it is not easy!!! Chat Icon So far 90% of the ones I just throw out to him while watching TV, etc., he doesn't like Chat Icon
