Everyone seems to hate our names. I don't get why they don't just pretend. Is anyone else having this issue where people are way too vocal. DH's cousin just named her daughter Serene Summer, come on! That's as hippy add is it gets or boarder line stripper.

Re: Names
That is pretty hippie. I want to say try not to worry about what other people think but I know DH and I changed our minds about "Fiona" when my sister started calling her an ogre. So far no one has a bad thing to say about Ava but maybe they just say it behind our backs... which is fine by me!

Ugh this is the reason we didn't tell anyone our name for DS until he was born. I'm doing the same this time around because I just don't need everyone's opinion. I know family members weren't crazy about his name based on their reactions but he was already born and what could they say at that point lol. Try not to listen. People love to put in their 2 cents about this stuff even when you don't ask for it.

Re: Names
Same crap happened to me. No close friends/coworkers liked the named we picked for our daughter. We still picked it though and now when people first meet her they say how much they loveeee it and how you dont hear it everyday. I learned with my second to not tell anyone.

Love both of them but especially Desmond!!
I learned with my first not to share names until the baby is born. Everyone has an opinion and it becomes so discouraging.

First of all I like both your names
Second of all, even if someone told me a name that I absolutely HATED i would NEVER EVER say that.
It's beyond rude. Like BEYOND.
The name of your child is a personal decision and you didn't ask anyone for opinions so why would they feel it's ok to give them? It's like walking up to someone, unsolicited and saying, hey you know what? I really can't STAND your hairstyle.
Who does that?
I know a lot of people don't tell anyone the names they have in mind for that reason, but I didn't care. I told everyone what names were in the running for our DD and if they didn't like it, I'd say, "oh well, it's not your decision, but thanks." Make them feel like a-holes . Just call them out for being so damn rude.

I flat out refused to tell anyone our names. Not even initials. They all found out in the hospital and no one dared to say anything negative.
I have a Hayley Elise and a Lila Avery.

With my first we had originally thought we were going to name him after my DH's father (who passed away before we were married)-- Richard. I told my mom and she made it clear that she hated the name. We were not set on it and were going between that and Charlie. We ended up going with Charlie but boy did I have fun making my mom think that it was Richard and watching her cringe!
For our second we really did not have a name set until we were in the hospital so we did not have a problem with hearing people's reaction.

We are naming our son after my husband, but with my daughter we didn't tell anyone our name choices because of this exact reason. We revealed the name when she was born, and at that point they have to keep their comments to themselves lol

Re: Names
We never told anybody our names until both girls were born. Mostly for superstition but also bc I didn't want to hear a peep from anyone. The name you choose for your baby is your decision and a very personal one. F everyone else.
....and unfortunately I'm sure it won't be the last time you get unsolicited opinions or advice. You raised your kid, let me raise mine.

Ahhhhh...yes, i remember this all too clearly. With DS #1 we decided to name him after DH's maternal grandfather. This man was my DH's hero so he wanted to honor him. The name is completely unique, and very ethnic. We made the extreme mistake of telling my MIL and she freaked out. I was floored we were honoring her father!!!! She went so far as to tell my DH that his grandma who he was also very close with was turning in her grave. Yeah, it was not pretty. I was horrified that she could look her own son in his face and say that to him. After he was born, she quickly got over it. DS#2 was named after my brother and DH's brother. Both very common names that we both loved. Some ppl had a few comments because he would be like the 29th of that particular name between both sides of the families. Whatever, you can't make everyone happy nor should you have to. When we get preggo with DC#3 I will without a doubt be keeping the nsme 1000000 percent between DH and myself. Good luck and do whatever makes you happy. Its your baby.

We didn't tell anyone what we were naming dd until she was born. My MIL made a face when we told her, so AFTER dd had been named. People are dipshits, just ignore them.

We never told our names to anyone aside from our moms. I got less than thrilled responses from mine but I could care less. We have very different tastes and I wouldn't expect us to like the same names. I also don't care to hear anyone else's opinions.

1: FWIW... I love your names!! When I hear Desmond I think of the song 'ob la dee" by the beatles! and I think Nadia is really pretty.
2. We have chose "different" names too and people were giving me sh*t about them so I've stopped telling people and they can just deal with it when baby comes.
3. Everyone is an a$$hole.
