Natural Remedies for Toddler Constipation?

My DS is 18 months and is experiencing constipation. I haven't made any significant changes to his diet - it's always been well-rounded with fruits, veggies, dairy and minimal processed foods. His pediatrician recommended Miralax. I've tried it and its worked for him but I don't want to constantly rely on it. I've given him pear sauce, pear juice, prune juice....are there any other things I can try?

TIA

Is your munchkin active? Running around crawling etc helps

Also I think drinking water is helpful

Our little guy had miralax for so long. Those days were rough. Good luck to you!

Also I think if the pears are baked it helps move things along

I changed from whole to two percent milk

Try kiwis too

Nothing makes my kids more regular now even though they are older is oatmeal with cinnamon and applesauce.

this helps my toddler also. i buy the quick oats and add my own fruit.

pears and prune juice are my go to home remedies. prune juice takes 2-3 days to kick in.

yes prune juice takes time so we made it a nightly routine. Only way to keep her 'regular'. She'd take 'shots' of it! LOL I don't know when we finally stopped but she went regularly and we slowly stopped it. But we still make her eat brocolli and cauliflower and fruits daily to keep it moving along.

Re: Natural Remedies for Toddler Constipation?

We usually do prunes and pears (whole fruits) though my sister in law's pediatrician recommended sitting the kid/baby on the toilet and that something about the positioning would help it along. It sounded so silly, but it works and they swear by it!

My 18 month old is having the same problem. I still havent had any luck- have been trying prune juice and pear juice, but then I feel like her stomache is getting gassy from the prunes that are hard on her stomache.
Dr. recommended Miralax and I've heard it works but is controversial. Thanks for posting, I hope to get some suggestions too!

Re: Natural Remedies for Toddler Constipation?

Try the dried prunes. We give DD one of these in the AM and by afternoon, early evening she goes.

Raisins also work.
