Nautical themed "big boy" room - need ideas
DS is turning 2 on Monday and we're going to be moving to a new house in the next 2 months. When we move I'll convert his crib to a toddler bed and we'll be changing the theme of the room to a nautical theme. I've already started collecting boats, oars, lighthouses, etc. for the walls and shelves.
I know I want to go with navy blue, light blue, and white or off-white for the colors (with a hint of red here and there). What I dont know yet is what color to paint the walls, where to get bedding (or what type of bedding for that matter), and other accessories like rugs, lamps, etc. I don't want it to look baby-ish...I'm going more pottery barn type style.
Anyone have pic of their nautical rooms or want to find me bedding and paint colors?? I'm terrible at this type of stuff.
If it helps, the wood in his bedroom set is a dark oak (almost cherry).

I have the same nautical room for my son and we just used dark red as the accent color, so the room is navy, light blue, and red. It looks so cute! I got a ton of stuff at Marshalls and HomeGoods to decorate with.

I think either stripes on the walls or a chair rail would look awesome for a nautical theme.
Cool Site

Would you do a chair rail or wainscotting? I love a navy blue wall with white wainscotting on the bottom half... breaks up the dark paint and looks so crisp.
Like this:
But there are so many nice combinations, just google "nautical toddler room".

Hmm waintscotting is a great idea that I hadnt thought about. Not sure if I'm bold enough to do navy on the walls but maybe a greyish blue for the top half of the wall and do his bedding and curtains in navy and a navy and white accent rug on the floor??

I have an all american boy themed room, but I used similar colors to what you're planning on using.
I had a white chair rail installed and painted the top light/ice blue and the bottom khaki. (I was tempted to try navy on the wall, but I didn't want his room to look smaller than it already is.) The curtains are navy blue though and the bedding is mainly navy with red/white stripes and stars mixed in.

We used "Nautical nights bedding by Jo-Jo designs and then brought wooden anchors, a life preserver clock and nuatical lamp.
I will post pictures when completed. The only difference in the bedding is DS has a full size bed.

What about a wall mural? I have one in DS's room that was so easy to do because it's wallpaper!
Here's one: I bought from this site: Justmurals.com

Re: Nautical themed "big boy" room - need ideas
I just converted my DS's nursery to big boy room. Well I never went babyish to begin with. I did a light blue above white waincotting and all his accessories came from Homegoods, I like old fashioned looking things that will grow with the them like ships wheels, model boats, netting with shells/seaweed etc. You can goggle searchnautical bedding and a ton of ideas will comes up. This is his bedding: Westport Bedding

You say you like PB. Their nautical room is one of my favorites and most likely will go this way with DS...
Americana, blues, white and red. Madras plaids.
Love this cedar shake accent wall, like the side of a boathouse. I actually want to do this treatment in my kitchen/dining room!
If you're not brave enough to do full navy walls, try broad stripes of navy and white. Instant nautical.
Look for outdoor lighting. Add simple cute fabric bunting. Does not even have to be sewn, just cut fabric triangles and hot glue them to some twine.
Too cute!!! But $80 at PBK! Great impact piece!

Re: Nautical themed "big boy" room - need ideas
I gotthe madras print bedding from pottery barn for ds's room, did his walls light blue and navy on the bottom (chair rail separating) and added nautical prints we got on etsy. They are 4 sailboats and are mainly blue, but have all of the madras colors in them as well. The other nautical accents ( anchor, etc) are just white

Homegoods has a TON of Nautical stuff in right now. I also second Christmas Tree Shop. I bought really nice stuff for my son's surfing themed room there. I got the bedding at the PBK outlet.
