DH's parents have a few rentals and they pick and choose who their tenants are for all of them. They ran credit checks on each of them and they turned away one woman because her credit was terrible.

My landlady has many apartments and we had a conversation about this when the downstairs was empty for a while. She put hers on CL all the time. She would put pics, no smoking, no pets and all the fees. She would meet people and if she didn't like them she would tell them she had another offer but would keep them in mind if it fell through. She would call them in a few days and say it was still firm so she suggests they move on.

You can pick and choose who lives in your rental. That is pure BS.
it's YOUR property and you rent it to whomever you feel best suits you in that capacity.
get the F out... so im freaking out for no reason??!?! she told us that if a 4 young guys walk in and want to rent it and after we've met them, that we cannot discriminate and say no, but we do have a right to meet them.. (my husband would only say no because he'd be afarid they would be parting and keeping my dd up)
What???????????????? Of course you can pick and choose who you want to live in YOUR home! Maybe the realtor doesn't want to work too hard to rent it. Rent it yourselves. You can run credit checks yourself. You can and should be super picky in your choice of a tenant, not only for financial reasons, but because you have a child.

we found our 1st apt on craigslist and our landlord ran our credit and background checks.
she chose us after interviewing and showing the apt to many potential tenants.

We found our apt on craigslist and the landlord did a credit check and background check on us...along with asking for our work stubs...there are lots of online sources you can use.
