Need a therapist recommendation
So although I have been happily posting pics and sharing milestones, I have also been crying every day and I feel horribly alone and overwhelmed. I have been having breastfeeding troubles and am seeing a Lactation Consultant and we are making progress but I still can't shake the sadness.
Anyone have any good recommendations of therapists who handle postpartum depression?

Re: Need a therapist recommendation
Lots and Lots of hugs to you I dont have any recommendations but do you think if you called the hospital where you delivered they might be able to point you in the right direction? I Am sure they must have someone they could refer you to as this is something that affects a lot of moms.
I hope things get better for you soon and you get the help you need.

Your OB should be able to recommend someone. Hang in there and good for you for seeking help.

Re: Need a therapist recommendation
I'm sorry you're having a tough time. The hospital I delivered at had a New Mom's Support Group and a program called Transitions to Motherhood. I took the Transitions program and it was so great to meet other moms in the same position I was in. I didn't have PPD, but did feel overwhelmed many times and this program helped me tremendously. It was the best thing I did. As far as a therapist, I would ask your doctor or even DD's pediatrician for a recommendation.
I hope things get better.

Re: Need a therapist recommendation
You have FM.
Many hugs to you- I had a very hard time with extreme anxiety at first and it was awful. Its so scary being a new mom and extremely overwhelming. Adding the breast feeding troubles,(which I had too) makes it even harder.
It will get better- definately get someone to help you.

Re: Need a therapist recommendation
Just wanted to send you I cried the first 2 months after giving birth...I was so anxious and depressed. DS was colic and the louder he screamed, the harder I cried. It does get better...the beginning is very, very difficult! I am actually on Celexa since giving birth and I see a therapist. What town do you live in??? I can give you her name! FM me!

Re: Need a therapist recommendation
I wouldn't be so quick to jump to PPD. I think that is usually diagnosed after 2 months because of your wacky hormones right now. I suggest getting out and to some support groups such as LLL or some hospitals hold BFing support groups. I know how you feel because I went through the same thing when I was having trouble bfing. The best thing to do it get out and about and to be open with your feelings. It doesn't hurt to inquire about a therapist but it may not be necessary.

Re: Need a therapist recommendation
There is a BFing support group that turned out to be a good new mom support group as well offerred through S.Nassau but it's held in Baldwin on Grand Ave. The same LC Nurse also does a group at Winthrop too. That would probably help in the meantime.

Re: Need a therapist recommendation
I would stick it out a little longer, like the others said your hormones are going crazy BUT I know a therapist in Westhampton Beach that I went to a while ago, while I was preggo, not after though, she deals with depression. FM if you would like her name and number.
Hugs to you! I too felt so overwhelmed but I adjusted soon after, it does take a while, be patient and don't be hard on yourself !
