Need Advice - kinda long
I really do try not to overreact and call the ped. everytime I get worried about DS..but I'm on the fence with this one. DS will be 5 months this week. He's been going to daycare for 2 months now. He got RSV/Bronchiolitis last month for about 10 days then was ok for a week and then last week came down with another cold (nasal congestion and slight cough --- almost like a drip). My mom kept saying to me "watch out for his ears" so I've been on high alert. Since last night he is really tugging at them. However, he has no symptoms that they are bothering him otherwise. One more thing, and I did just see the earwax post, but DS also has "waxy" ears. His actually smell though. Really bad. I've take him to the ped. about it before and they look at me like I'm crazy and tell me it is just earwax. But his ear smells really bad since yesterday (sorry if TMI). Do you think I should take him in tomorrow morning just to get him checked or do you think this is normal and not to worry? Part of me doesn't want to overreact but part of me also wants to make him better, especially before Christmas. What would you do?

I would take him!!! and tell them you want them to take some of the wax out and then check his ears again! My ped always takes some wax out because they have too much for her to see in.. I agree with the ear smelling.. if it smells its usually an infection! good luck

I would definetely take him. Does he have a fever? IF he is pulling on them he could have an infection, and if not he still may have a build up of wax that may be bothering him.

Re: Need Advice - kinda long
oh yeah, forgot to mention that he does not have a fever. The thing about the smelly ear is that I've taken him before about it and he didn't have an infection at all. They told me it was just ear wax. It it normally orangish. Actually, last month when he had RSV i had gotten some blackish chunks, and again no infection At the last appt. I actually mentioned that I was curious if they could drain the wax out and they told me they wouldn't do that. But that wasn't my normal doctor so hopefully tomorrow I can see him and get some answers. It's really gross though. But more importantly I just want him to be comfortable and not sick anymore. I also thought about the teething thing. He does drool a lot and loves to chew on stuff but no sign yet that anything is breaking through. Thanks ladies.
