Need advice and suggestions
Ok so here's the short version of a long story.... My due date is Oct 16th and DH is deploying for Iraq on Oct 8th. Since I live in FABULOUS Kansas on an army base, they don't do elective c-sections, but they will induce me at 39 weeks... the day AFTER he leaves.. yeah thanks!
So... starting at 37 weeks, DH and I agreed to do EVERYTHING anyone can suggest to bring on labor... so girls... help us out.. what can we do?? Anything you've ever heard is appreciated because we are going to do it all!!!
TIA!

Hey Josie... I thought they said if you didn't deliver he could stay a few weeks until you do? GRRR...
Well, Kris had this conversation with the doc a couple weeks ago and he said the only thing proven was good old fashioned S E X. so finish this pregnancy the way you started it!!!!!
Hope you are feeling well. I want to see you when you and Johnny come back! Let me know!! xoxo

Re: Need advice and suggestions
Yeah he was told he could stay, and then he got his papers yesterday and it says the 8th. He's working on it, but our baby is like #190827873786678979090887 of importance to his Brigade apparently =(
And we will be home next weekend actually.... and my mom is having a little get together/dinner type thing on Sunday. You are more than welcome to stop on by. John and Alicia of course will be attending as well.... let me know.

Hey Josie, yes I did have this conversation with the dr. The only thing is, if your body is not already in the process of working on early labor, sex, spicy foods, catrol oil, walking, etc...none of it will work. But, I didn't let that stop us! We tried it all (minus the castrol oil b/c I've read it can be dangerous unless a dr. knows). So, I say girl it all a whirl! You can't blame a couple for trying!
I think it is INSANE that they won't let him stay. I can't stay the way they treat our military.

Re: Need advice and suggestions
My OB just told us to have lots of sex. The prostaglandins in a man's semen are the same hormones they use to thin your cervix in an induction so the OB suggested we do it as often as we can to get things going. Other than sex I believe a lot of the other methods to get labor going are old wives tales for the most part. Good luck!!!!

Everything I've read (books and online sites) say to NOT take castor oil, it could be dangerous. I would be a little hesitant with that one so I'm just sticking with the sex even though that is not really all that appealing in the 3rd trimester!!!

Re: Need advice and suggestions
I've read that the only thing PROVEN by research to induce labor is sex.
so get to it

Re: Need advice and suggestions
They are allowed to take 15 days for R&R leave during their tour over there regardless of the reason.... BUT since he is supposed to leave on 10/8 and im due the next week... if he came home, he would then have to be in Iraq for a full year without any leave. Its all just so upsetting because their motto is ' Families First' and up until now, I have to say, they really have treated us very well. I guess it should be ' Families First, unless we are at war'.
Thanks for your thoughts and we're going to try it all.... maybe minus the castor oil... i'm scared now lol. Don't want to do anything to hurt the little peanut! Thanks again!

Re: Need advice and suggestions
This makes me so mad for you, we deal with the same thing. They are all for supporting you, until you actually need them to support you.
Is he actually being deployed on that date, or is he going for training for a month before he is actually sent overseas? I know sometimes there is a grace period.
Can you look into what the red cross will do for you IF you go into labor? I know they can pull him out if there are dire circumstances.

Re: Need advice and suggestions
He did his month training in California back in May. He leaves 10/8 and has another 14 days of training, but that will be in Kuwait =(
Red Cross says that I can call them when I go into labor and they can see what they can do, but because of his job, it will be up to his Commanding Officer whether or not they will let him come home..... especially because as of now, everything looks perfect with the baby. God forbid something were to go wrong, he would be sent back, but for normal circumstances, its case by case. It just drives me INSANE because during those 14 days that he will be in Kuwait, I will probably have the baby and its not training that he has not done before.
But hey, what do I know... i'm just the wife!!!!
Just as a side note because I got FM that was a little snotty..... My parents have both offered to fly out.... BUT as we all know, the baby is going to come when she wants and I can't ask my parents to take off work and sit with me for up to 3 weeks, in case she's late. And.. the whole point here is that DH is HEARTBROKEN that he might not be able to hold his baby girl when she's born.
We'll see though I guess...... hopefully he has some good news when he comes home from work today...if not, you may just hear on the news that a Crazy pregnant girl in Nothing-ville, Kansas has chained herself to her hubby so he can't deploy!!!

I ate really bad Chinese food and DH made sure to hit every pothole in the road. A few hours later, I went into labor!
