Need advice asap - doctor just called with not so great news
Ok, so ER is tomorrow for retreival. The doctor just called and said that my progestrone levels are really high and he is recommending that we freeze our eggs and then do a transfer in 3-4 weeks.
I don't understand and unfortunately I was in the middle of a client meeting.
Is there a quality issue with freezing eggs? Costs? Benefits? Disadvantages?
I just need some insight before the ER tomorrow so we can talk with him.
TIA!

We did this... Do you know how the embryos are being frozen? If it's through vitrification, then when they thaw they have basically the same success rate as a fresh transfer.
The benefit is that an FET requires fewer drugs and stress on your body than an IVF cycle does. Also, if your hormone levels are not where they should be to best assist with implantation, another advantage is you will be able to control that issue.
It seems like the wait is FOREVER to now wait for a frozen transfer... but if this is what the doctor says is best, I'd absolutely follow that. As far as costs.... I paid for an FET when that happened to me but I'm told from other BTDT posters on here that from ER to ET it's considered ONE cycle so you may not have to pay for the FET separately, just the drugs. I'd inquire about that tomorrow and get whatever is said in writing!

Thanks so much! I just felt so defeated, like we were getting so close and then bam. But I will follow whatever he feels is best but didn't even know what to think when he called, I wasn't expecting that at all.
Thanks again!

Yeaaaaa it definitely stinks to be thrown a curveball ... but just think. . if this will help you have better success, may as well! If you get a bfp, it's just a few weeks different. Maybe we'll be transfer buddies!

I have done this before ....-although it resulted in a chemical it was the most pregnant I have been when I did the fet! My embryos survived 100%...it stunk but like PEnny said if it get you your baby then it's worth it!

How did it go? I just had my transfer finally 5 weeks after my ER. I was a freeze all and I felt like they took my finish line and threw it in the garbage. Of course I followed Drs orders and very quickly I saw that they were right. The FET was so much easier which made it.....well easier. It was a few meds, a couple of mornings, and a transfer. The embryo was perfect after the thaw and I just got my BFP. It stinks to say it at the beginning but in the end the wait is always worth it.

Congrats!!!! The ER went great. And after speaking with the doctor in person, I feel much more comfortable waiting. He told me if I did a transfer on day 5, I only have maybe a 10% chance and plus other risks would be involved. So we will freeze all and hopefully in a few weeks, we will have our transfer.
