Need Advice on Diaper Changes
Lucas flat out refuses to lay down to let me or anyone else change him and it's a battle I just can't fight.
This morning I laid the diaper out...sat him on it and wrapped it around him while he ate his cheerios Not my finest work but it was on.
I've read that many parents go through this so in an effort not to fight the phase (since I am guessing there is nothing I can do to change this)...any other suggestions on how you change your determined to be independent toddler's diaper?

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
i had to fight jack with every diaper change - i now put on the backyardigans for the few seconds it takes to change him - it's the only thing that gets him to stay still.
The last two days though - he's back to fighting me.

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
It is a phase but a really difficult one! I use(d) easy up diapers to get the new diaper on him on the run. The are just like regular diapers but pull up rather than you having to close the "straps" on the sides.

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
When Lily's really fighting me (I've had a few weeks where she's really a PIA) I do it on the floor while she watches TV. That usually works.

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
We have the same problem! HUGE struggle!! The only thing that usually works is to give him something to play with while I change him. But, I can't just give him a toy, it has to be something that he's never seen before, or hasn't seen in a while, or something he really shouldn't be playing with like diaper cream tube, gas drops bottle, etc. Sometimes I let him play with a clean diaper, that works some of the time. He LOVES Elmo and the Cruisers have Sesame theme so he likes looking at the characters. He calls them all Elmo though!! I think I'm going to have to stop using the changing table and move to the floor, because he sits up, stands up, climbs over to the other side where all the creams and stuff are. I have to keep laying him back down only for him to flip over and crawl the other way again.

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
My nephew was horrible with this. My sister used pullups instead and it was so much easier.

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
I turn on a show he likes and change him in front of the television.
To be honest, he is pretty okay with diaper changes though.

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
Sometimes I put her comb in my mouth and make silly noises -- like I sing a song with the comb in my teeth. It's jsut so silly that she will stay quiet for a few seconds. I also let her play with the TV or A/C remote - things she's not allowed to touch normally. But it's still a huge battle.
Also she isn't as resistant if we are out somewhere. Like if I change her at Gymboree she will not fight me as much....dunno why...

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
Victoria loves to play with a clean diaper or the tube of diaper creme while I change her. I also made sure to set aside 2 toys that she only gets to play with during diaper changes. It's still a huge struggle at times, but it makes the fight a little more bearable

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
The only way I can get Ben to lay still for the 30 seconds it take me to change his diaper is to give him a toy to occupy his hands and sing a really silly song to him in a really silly voice. It works for about 30 seconds. If it takes me longer than that, it's wiggle-city.

Re: Need Advice on Diaper Changes
standing. It's easier to change it while they are standing. Of course, once they learn to jump even that is out the window. You should see DS's diaper sometimes. Either he has one cheek hanging out or it's all twised...one time DH put it on backwards because it was the only way he could get it on.

I agree -- I've changed Andrew while he stands for the longest time now.
