Need Advice or ideas
Hi, Would love any advice from all you knowledgeable gals ! I am in a bad situation with work.... I work 3, full days a week at my job and have been there for 13 yrs. I went PT since having my kids. My boss is extremely difficult and can be very mean. She expects a lot and I always try to accomodate and do alot from home, stay late etc..........My problem is my salary only covers my daycare. I hardly bring anything home after the daycare costs but yet we need my income. I have been trying to find a night job but no luck and have been looking for a long time. My boss also didnt give me a raise or review this year. Since I am PT , she thinks I do not qualify for one and told me that at my last review.
Bottom line, can I quit and collect unemployment ? I always hear conflicting opinions on this. It is a very hostile work environment and she always is telling me that this arrangement is not working out or it doenst work. I just don't know what to do anymore. I am working for an ungrateful women for basically nothing and getting stressed out !!''
Any ideas, advice on what to do ? I have been looking for other jobs since last year and nothing yet !
I am in NJ btw. Thanks for reading and sorry so long !!!

As far as I know, ANYONE can file for unemployment, it just depends on if your job will fight it.

Don't know about the unemployment, but have you considered working at a group home type agency for the overnight shift, or as an on-call/per diem?
Usually not a stressful work environment.

Yes, anyone can apply for unemployment. They have to dispute it. Problem is a lot of times the state takes so long to get the paperwork to the company, the company has like 1 day to respond, so many people do collect that shouldn't. Other times the company doesn't even bother responding.
I would count on it though. Technically if you quit, you would not be eligible. So if you were depending on this money to make your monthly bills, I would be cautious doing so.

Re: Need Advice or ideas
your income covers daycare and a little left over?
I would leave the job. No amount of aggravation is worth the small amount left over. You could get another job to cover just that small amount at night one or two nights a week. You could waitress and make more probably.
Not sure how much you are talking about but you have to weigh and measure the risk vs the reward.
Good luck.

Re: Need Advice or ideas
Thanks everyone - I appreciate it !
I have been trying to find something at night but it has been so hard. I am still looking and the group home is a great idea. I am going to look into that. I do have a degree in psych and a background in non profit / social services so that would be a good fit !
Thanks again !
