Need advice regarding work/jobs
I am miserable in my current job and not making enough $$$. Even an additional $5-10K more would help DH and I. Plus I do not need any health benefits; DH gets excellent benefits through the police dept. I am due April 2nd. I figured I would start sending out my resume in March and hopefully go on some interview while on maternity leave. Do you think this is too early to send out my resume or do you think I should start even earlier? Also, and this is where I need the most help, I really would like to find a job in Nassau County (or Suffolk). Commuting into the city is not something I am crazy about doing right now with a new baby at home. Can anyone recommend any good companies that they work for or know of? I went to school for Public Relations, however, I currently work for a mortgage company and previously worked for the Federal Avaiation Administration. I have great experience in several different areas. It just seems like today its not what you know, it's who you know. Any advice is definetely appreciated.

Re: Need advice regarding work/jobs
I am thinking about doing this too once the baby comes. I am due in July and will most likely start sending resumes out at the end of the JUly beginning of August while i am on maternity leave.
I am also looking for a job closer to home b/c i do not want to commute to the city once i have my baby.

Re: Need advice regarding work/jobs
I'm in the same boat as you. I'm due March 24th and will start sending out my resume in the beginning of April. I plan to update my resume before I have the baby. I will post it on sites (like Monster and Careerbuilder) and apply to specific jobs after I have the baby (2 or 3 weeks). I want to give myself time to heal and adjusted to the new baby.
During my last search, I got some responses pretty fast so I want to wait until I'm ready to go on an actual interview.
Good Luck!

Re: Need advice regarding work/jobs
I would wait as well. No matter how awesome your resume and qualifications, knowing you are about to need 2-3 months off IMMEDIATELY is likely to make any employer reconsider for obvious reasons. I can't say I would act any differently myself if I was the one doing the hiring. It just makes better business sense to hire someone who can be trained and work right away as opposed to someone who will barely get training and then need to go out on disability so soon. Good luck.
