Need hannukah gift ideas for an 8 month old boy
No clothes... The mom already said that... I kind of want to get him something Hannukah inspired, but am at a loss. There is a cute Hannukah toy menorah/latkes (sp?) gift on the land of nod website, but I'm thinking maybe he's too young for that.
Any ideas?

I think a nice menorah or fancy dreidel is a great idea. He's only 8 months so really doesn't know any better and maybe she'll put it on a shelf in his room.
My son was 6 - 7 months last year for Hanukkah and my MIL got this amazing construction theme menorah b/c DH is a contractor. I loved it and keep it out on a shelf for show.

Re: Need hannukah gift ideas for an 8 month old boy
I've been looking for giant chew friendly draidels, no luck, but I think that would be perfect tucked into a shape sorter box with other shapes.
Ds just turned 8m and is just starting to get interested in sorting shapes.
Ds is also into books, flipping pages, etc. Toy photobook and stick some pictures of hannukah stuff maybe? Then parents can replace it with pictures baby likes.

That set is so cute! I'm sure his mom can put it away for when he's a bit older.

Re: Need hannukah gift ideas for an 8 month old boy
Walmart has a wooden set - menorah w/ candles, latkes, pan, gelt $26 - free shipping to store.
How about a tzeduka box?
I was going to get DS a battery operated one (he's 2 1/2) - the description said it was "good for prisions, travel, college and children" - I opted for the one at Walmart

What is a tzeduka box? (I should just google, but I'm lazy!)

Good question. Someone told me just to look on the web. I saw some stuff at BBB. I think we are going to get her a teddy bear and a book, unless I see something else.

I don't think you should google any hebrew-to-english word... A chartity box - like a little bank that you are supposed to fill up and give to charity. We used to get free cardboard ones at hebrew school. I got one for my ex-boss's son for his bar mitzvah.

Awww, that's such a beautiful sentiment. Where can I get a nice one?

I think you can get any toy that is age appropriate - it doesn't have to be Hanukkah themed -- like for Christmas, everyone doesn't get christmas themed toys.

I know, but I want to get him a Hanukkah themed gift bc I think his mom(my friend) feels left out (for lack of a better term) within our circle of non-Jewish friends and I want her to know that I acknowledge and respect that part of her and her son's identity. I thought it would be mire special than just a regular toy.

That's very sweet. I'm just thinking from a practical standpoint - I'd personally rather have a toy that my DD would play with all the time, not just for Chanukkah. That being said, there's a Karen Katz book "Where's baby's dreidel?" that's awesome. BBB has stuffed animal dreidels. Those two things are enough in my opinion if they aren't religious, and if you wan to give more, give any other toy you think he'd like.
