NEED HELP ASAP-UPDATE!

I have an appointment with another doctor on Monday April 2, for a 2nd opinion on my pregnancy protocol. I need to bring my records with me. Im not sure if Im going to be switching so I dont want to "offend" my current dr should I choose not to switch.

I know that Im entitled to my records but I just want to prepare myself for a fight...

Im to much of a wimp to just call up and say that I need them so I was going to say that I was going away and would like to have a copy of my records with me should anything happen while I was away...

What do you think?

I just called and just as I thought she did question me,although she said they would be ready Thursday afternoon...I had to reschedule my appointment for next week too..for some reason I have a feeling that I will be getting a phone call from the dr...I'll keep you posted!!!

Don't even need to say that. Just call up and say "I need a copy of my records, how much do you charge per page." The receptionist will answer you tell you a day to come pick them up and you are done.
Your doc won't even know about it.

ETA0 you should try and call first thing in the AM. Mine took a little over a week.

I have done this many times, and like you, I have always been afraid they would say something. They never have, just said OK, when /how do you want them.

I work for a doctor's office and they have no right to ask you and probably won't. Just tell them you need them.

They cannot give you a hard time. Due to HIPAA privacy laws you are entitled to your records but the doctors office can charge up to .75 per page.

Call first, becuase my husband wanted his records from his primary care and just stopped by and they would not give it to him. He had to fill out a request and had to go back a couple of days later to get them.
Of course I thik this depends on how big the office is...

They cannot withhold your records for any reason- you are entitled to your own records for any reason. They do have a right to charge you a nominal amount (I think it is .75 cents a page these days - but most places won't do that).

You most likely will have to fill out some sort of HIPPA compliant form or write a letter requesting them - just a fomality. I would ask soon as some places take a few days to get around to copying them.

If you are concerned just tell them you want a copy for either your personal records or b.c you are getting a second opinion.
