Need Help! (diet and fitness related)

So, we are doing Biggest Loser at work. It's going to start Jan.3 and end June 4th or so. I'm ready to do this and even got my husband to do it along side of me even though he's not in the competition. Now I need help. I need ideas, plans, recipes - whatever I can get I will take!!! How do I start? Thanks in advance.

FYI - They did this two years ago (I was pregnany at the time) and the second place person lost 20% of his body weight. He's doing it again bc. he gained it all back. The guys are also fattening up this week for the weigh in - so, I need serious help to beat these people!

I would indulge if I were you because those pounds should come off fairly easily. May as well enjoy yourself. After that I would start South Beach. It's extreme but that's me....I am all about competition. I don't think you would want to stick with South Beach for your whole competition but it will give you a couple of weeks of great results & get you moving in the right direction. I have always been very successful on SB.

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely enjoying the holidays but not going crazy. I'm thinking about South Beach but not sure how it would fit my lifestyle (DH is allergic to poultry, seafood, eggs andpeanuts).

Anyone else??

Re: Need Help! (diet and fitness related)

This is the plan that has worked best for me when I have lost weight (never able to keep it off too well but that's my own fault & lack of consistency)... I need to start following my own advice in the new year actually since all my pants are tight...

Vegetables-- unlimited, Fruit-- almost unlimited

Green tea (hot or iced) & water only to drink

No white bread/flour... have whole grain only for cereal, bread, pasta

Cottage cheese, tofu, greek yogurt, beans & legumes are great alternatives for protein if there are meat allergies (brown rice with beans is a very filling, low-cal meal)

Cook with small amounts of olive oil (it's the healthiest)

Avoid junk foods & processed foods, fast foods & also sugary drinks & candy, they're not that filling & are a waste of calories

Count calories!!!!!!!... this is a must for me anyway so I don't overdo it... 1500-1800 per day is a good range to avoid extreme hunger but still allow you to lose weight consistently.

Exercise!!! Otherwise you'll lose muscle which is counterproductive to further weight loss. Buy hand weights (5,8,and 10 lb.) and do exercises every other day for your biceps, triceps, shoulders, chest, & back. Look online for exercises to strengthen your core. Also do lunges & squats for your legs. You can find many good workouts online that don't require equipment.

Cardio is really important too for fat-burning. At least 30 minutes of high-intensity cardio, most days of the week. Fast walking, climbing stairs, or jumping rope if you don't access to other equipment.

Plan ahead & stick with it & you'll lose a few pounds a week in a healthy way.
