need help finding a nanny

Can anyone suggest how to go about finding a nanny?
Any suggestions or names of agencies or even if you know anybody personally?

My girlfriend lives in long beach and was offered a great job opportunity that she is interested in but only if she find someone great to watch the baby.

Thank you.

Re: need help finding a nanny

I found both of my nannies different ways. The first one I found through an agency....she's great and we loved her, but the agency charged me $975. To me, it was just ridiculous. This time, I went to our community center. We have a Parent Resource Center in town (Port Washington) and they have a nanny book. People can go and either put in an entry that they need babysitting (FT or PT) or that they're looking for babysitting (FT or PT). You do your own background check this way, but it's free.

The agency was easier, but we like both nannies that we've worked with.

I was a nanny and am considering doing it again (long beach is too far for me) but like someone said some of the agencys charge 1000 dollars. Its easier to research yourself IMO. Did you try craigslist or local colleges?

I have the names of a few agencies I can recommend. Two of the agencies charged one week's salary of your nanny and another charaged 15% of the first years salary. I didn't go with the expesive one - I went with the other and am generally happy. FM me if you want more info. Is this live in or live out?
