Need help from BTDT moms regarding clothing...

Cailen is 4 mts now and wearing 6-12 mts, and occasionally 12-18 mts in some things!!!

What should I do about clothing for the fall? I don't want to scramble last minute, but when i bought summer clothes I really goofed and underestimated how much he was going to grow... I was able to send a lot of nice boy clothes to someone on here who needed them, but I want to shop smarter for fall and winter...

do they grow slower at this point, or will be be in 2 yr old stuff by the winter? I am so confused as to how this works - can anyone give me suggestions on what size I should at least shoot for the fall?

Re: Need help from BTDT moms regarding clothing...

I honestly never shopped too far in advance for clothes for Nate. I always waited a few weeks before I would need stuff. I would just buy a size up in some items to make sure it lasted at least a 2-3 months.

Between 6-9 months Nate was wearing 9mo and 12mo clothing. After that he started to slim down when he got more mobile. By the time he was 1, he was wearing still wearing 12M and some 18M stuff. He pretty much spent a year wearing 18M clothing. Now at 2, he's wearing 24M and 2T clothes. It totally depends on the brand.

Jayden is 4 months also and 17lbs (I'm still in shock over that). He's wearing 3-6M clothing.

Old Navy and Carters stuff runs small IMO
Gymboree is true to size
JCPenney and Children's Place clothes run big on both boys

What brands are you buying?

I have mostly Carters stuff - I received a lot as gifts, or bought with BBB gift cards - I am going to look around at other stores and bring him with me to get a better sense....

From my experience they tend to slow down after a year. My son stopped eating after he was off of formula/baby food. If you son is wearing those sizes now I would most likely got with 24mos or 2t for the winter. Winter is the longest season.....

Good luck!!

That probably explains why he's wearing 9 and 12m clothing. Definitely try other stores.... My mom is the pricing manager for the children's dept at a JCPenney. I'll ask her when the next big sale is.

I have found that Carter's shrinks so much. They look big on the hanger at the store, but they are half the size after you wash them once.

That's funny, b/c DS is 3 months old and still wearing Carter's newborn stuff, and he is probably about 12lbs now.

The ONLY stuff DS is in 3-6 months in are the Gerber onesies.

I would wait it out with Cailen though, I mean, you can probably get some good deals if you wait too. I've heard they gain a lot til they are mobile too.

Considering he's "ahead" I would suggest buying clothes as you need them. When babies gain faster/are bigger than their age in clothes, it's much harder to buy them in advance. Just look for sales and try Once Upon a Child (I think it's in Massepequa), I bought several pairs of pants, a few sweaters and some shirts for $20 and all of it was "pricey" brands.

Same here, Lucas is starting to get too big for some things now at 9/10 weeks that are "NB" and the 0-3 fits perfectly. He's 10 lbs. 3-6 looks silly on him at this point. His clothes seem to all fit true to size and most (like 90%) of his clothes are Carter's.

I think a lot of it has to do with length and where the weight goes. A long baby at say 15 lbs. will fit differently in the same clothes as a baby who is short and 15 lbs.

I was just going to say the same thing. Emma is wearing 0-3 mos in Carters. They seem to run a little big to me. I weighed her yesterday and she's up to 13lbs!

And I'm clueless about fall. I went to Old Navy and bought a bunch of 3-6 mos stuff, and the pants are super long right now. Hopefully she grows into the stuff. I decided I'm not buying anything else until she needs it (other than my super cheap super cute thrift store finds!)

Is he wearing seperates in those sizes or just streches?
With DS he ran true to size with seperates but with streches he seems to outgrow them fast. He did slow down with the growing once he turned 1.
With DD she is probably 9.5lbs now and is 21.5 inches, tomorrow will be 4 weeks old and 0-3 month seperates are big on her no matter from what store. Even the streches are big. She is really inbetween a newborn size and 0-3.

If he is growing at that rate I would wait until you are closer to the time you actually need it, plus it will be on sale.

Re: Need help from BTDT moms regarding clothing...

See Carter's always ran big for me. DD can still fit into the 6 month clothing. Gerber, Old Navy and Children's Place always ran small for us.

As for what sizes to buy. Once DD started solids, her weight didn't seem to increase as much as it did in her first 4/5 months. She was gaining 2-3 lbs between visits only on formula. Now she ains amybe a pound in 2 months. I've been buying 9-12, 12 months for fall and winter. I'm not going to go nuts because she could have a growth spurt.

Do yourself a favor and don't get too much too far in advance. I had to scramble as well. He started wearing 18 and 24 month clothes at 6 months. He is still in them and they are still a little big. So to answer your question, yes..the growth does slow down.

The onesie stretchie things suck for him - his little feet press up against the footsy area - so I rarely put him in those....

Re: Need help from BTDT moms regarding clothing...

I got all 9-12 mo. for TJ. I'd rather them be a little big than be too small and only be able to wear them once. I leave the tags on everything (I dont pre-wash anymore) and if I dont use it I return it/exchange it for something else. I know Carters has an awesome return policy and I never had a prolem with Babies R'Us either.
