Need help immediately...Autism Related

My friends daughter has just been diagnosed with severe autism. She is looking for early intervention schools (her daughter is 2) in New York. Preferably, Queens or Manhattan. Can you please offer any suggestions? She has seen some places in the Bronx and is not happy about the location or the staff.

Any recc's would be appreciated my friend is really at her wits end right now and I am trying to help as much as possible.

I can find out the exact location but my nephew also has severe autism and attends a school in Fresh Meadows. I can FM you with the details when I talk to my sister, if you want.

Has she been in contact with Early Intervention? She can get a referral from her ped or who ever diagnosed.

EI will put her in touch with a lot of service providers and developmental pre schools and help with the transition to the school system which happens at or around 3 years old.

I would post on the Special Needs board as well.

Check out a center called lindamoodbell. It's in the city and they might be able to help.

My best friend is a teacher at HeartShare First Step Preschool, 718-441-5333. She deals everyday with children who are severly autistic.
It's in Richmond Hill. She said they have some 2.5yr olds in the program so def have your friend check them out
