Need help quick! about apartment complexes..
I am moving into a complex a week from today.. Is it normal for them not to let me see the actual apartment until the move in day? The previous tenants moved out at the end of August... they say they are painting and stuff now.. but a week before move in day? I want to look at the apartment before we move in... am I entitled to that?? TIA!

You are defiantely entitled to see the apartment you are moving into. When we were looking they showed us a couple at our complex and the woman asked which one we wanted. They still had somethings to fix around the apt but we still saw it.

Re: Need help quick! about apartment complexes..
The tenants were still living in my apartment but they showed us the same model just different unit. The models are identical in my complex. Perhaps when they aren't working in the apartment they can let you see it one evening?

Re: Need help quick! about apartment complexes..
so it turns out that this is the norm for apartment complexes.. i spoke to 2 women who work at the complex.. i have never rented in a complex before, only houses.. so i guess we will just wait til moving day... they assured me the apartment will be up to our standards on that day and not to worry. thanks for the replies, guys

Re: Need help quick! about apartment complexes..
i only saw the model of the apartment, not my actual unit. I did know where it was within the complex ahead of time though, which was important to me.

Re: Need help quick! about apartment complexes..
We were not entitled to see the apt until the day our lease become effective. The complex showed us a similiar unit comparable to ours, but not actually ours.
The morning we moved in, we picked up the key and did the inspection on the apt with the super before we moved any furniture in.

Re: Need help quick! about apartment complexes..
NYS law says they are allowed to show an apartment when tenant has gien 60 days notice.
But when we were looking at aparmtments (the Avalons) they do not show you the actual apartment, they will show you whatever they have that is vacant. Its their policy. I kind of liked the idea of it. At least you know no one will be in your apartment when you decide to leave.
They also should state the conditions in which the apartment is in, in your lease.
If the apartment is vacant though, and they are painting, you should be allowed to see it.
But again, at avalon, unless someone vacats early, you can't see your actual apartment.
