Need help!!! What can I do in these spaces?
We are taking out the stove and fireplace (we bought them with the house and there are no permits.) To get it permitted we'd need to replace them both with new models and it's just too expensive. Since we are selling, we will just take them out and leave the brick in case the new owners want to put one in.
So once we remove the stove and fireplace what can we do with the space? What should put there?
Or should we remove the brick?

Can you put an electric fireplace in them? Can you build a hearth surround and then put candles where the wood would go?

I would remove the brick and re-sheetrock both areas.
I would also widen the doorway leading to the kitchen.

I would leave the brick if you don't want to put the money into removing it and resheetrocking the walls.
You can get a nice candle piece for both areas.

I like the brick in the first picture but I would remove the brick in the second one. I agree with an electric fireplace for the first picture. The second room I would just rearrange the furniture you already have.

while I would like to remove the brick, I don't want this to cost anymore than it has to.
What kind of candles would go there? Do you have any pictures?

For the first one, I would make it into a built in bookcase. If you take out the stove it is going to look so weird to have a hearth and nothing on top. If you do the bookcase, you can add wood and mouldings to the front and sides of the hearth. I would leave the back exposed brick and do the sides and actually shelves in white.
The second picture I would sheet rock.

If you remove the brick you will have to repair the flooring too. It will get $$$.

we just put a fake fire place in our living room that we inherited from my grandmother. There is a fake log thing that you plug in and it cracklers... i think it would look nice, especially in the non-corner one. Its an inexpensive fix, and whoever buys the house and always decide what they want to put there... gas/electric, etc.
