Need help with an observation 5th Grade

So I'm going to have my first Observation sometime next week or the following this weekend I have to write up a lesson plan

The Subject is Reading...

I know I'm going to use the one of the short stories from The House on Mango Street by Sandra Ciseneros (the kids really respond well to it) but im not sure what to do yet

My AP suugessted maybe to use one of the 12 strategies for Reading.

I know I dont want to do Theme...

Does anyone have any great suggestions?

I need to dazzle the admin cuz I only get 2 obser. a year and i already feel like they dont like me much

are you doing TC?

If so, I have a bunch of really great lessons that I could share with you. Workshop minilessons are great for observations, because there's only about 10 minutes of actual teaching, and then you go and conference with the kids.

i dont have to do TC but im familiar with the model when i student taught

any ideas you have would be great :)
