Need help with Baptism outfit-the priest is making me change the one we have.
The priest at the church where DS will be baptised told me today that DS has to wear white, not off white, not ivory but only white. Has anyone else come across this? The outfit we ordered is an ivory/cream like color so now I will have to see if I can change it.
He also said he needs his feet, chest and back to be easily accessible. Does that mean no shoes, socks and maybe no coat that the outfits come with? Im not sure what to do now. Thanks.

Is he going to tell you to leave if DC shows up with the outfit you already bought on? I doubt it. And who is to say that YOU purchased it, in my family, we don't see it until the day of.
What an odd request.

Why would he say that...what if it was an old christening outfit as was my DD's....my DH wore the same one when he was christened...it definitely was not white...

My MIL and SIL are surprised by his requests also. He is pretty new to the church so we dont know him well. Even his secretary was surprised at his insistence on it all being white.

I have never heard this before, did he actually ask you what the baby was going to wear?

Both of my kids wore silk dupioni which is naturally off white because of the material.....

When I met with him today, he was going over the ceremony with me and then says he wants DS to be in all white. I asked him if off white or Ivory are ok and he said no, he has to be in all white. He didnt elaborate further.
I am Jewish and DH is Catholic. This is my first experience with a Baptism. I had to go alone b/c DH couldnt get out of work. I didnt think to ask further questions about it and the priest seemed like he was in a rush.

I would explain that the outfit is a family heirloom and will not be changed I would also ask to speak to the pastor. That is insane!

I know they need access to the baby's chest but as far as color never heard that.
JMO, disregard. On the day of, he won't not baptised your son for wearing Ivory.
And, JMO, the less you tell a church the better!!

That's crazy and I think he's overstepping.
What if money is an issue and this is all you have to use? What if it is a family heirloom and is no longer white? Sounds like a power trip to me.
My DD wore ivory. DS will wear whatever his godmother chooses. She's partial to ivory too...

He is out of line. You dont really want to know what I would say to him
Put the outfit on that day. If he doesnt like it, too bad!
You would think the catholic church would have other things to worry about these days...like maybe their priests

The only part of that that I have heard before is that they want the chest easily accesible ( like meaning unbuttoned) when it comes time for the annointing ....
The rest seems very unreasonable to me ...What if it was a family heirloom ? I would go straight to the deacon and express my concerns !

Maybe you can just say it is white ! But then you would be lying to priest .. Cant you just ask him to make an exception?

Re: Need help with Baptism outfit-the priest is making me change the one we have.
What if it was an outfit that has been passed down generations - is he going to tell you your child cant wear it - "F" that... I am sorry the church cant dictate what outfit your child wears - its NOT part of the baptism to ONLY wear white...
Now the easy access part - I can see they have to touch the chids chest with the holy oil but that was more of a convenience thing for the parent and as far as shoes - um thats ridicolous too - your child sohuld be able to wear shoes if you want them too.....

That is the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever heard of. I can see about the feet and chest ok, but must be WHITE. Please. I swear they think they ARE God!

Are you Catholic? If so I am wondering what he needs to do with the baby's feet and back. Is their another preist you can talk to?
