Need help with BF baby that is refusing bottle when I'm at work!
DS is almost 4 months old and EBF. I have been back to work for 4 weeks. DH is home with DS until November. The first 2 weeks back to work DS would take three 4oz bottles no problem from DH. The past 2 weeks he has started to refuse the bottles and screams and cries. DH is lucky if he will take 5 ozs from him the entire time I am at work. I am usually home by 3:30 and then DS eats no problem. I am concerned that DS isn't eating enough and I don't know what to do to encourage him to drink the bottles. We have tried fresh and frozen milk. He refuses both. We have tried Born Free, Tommee Tippee, Medela and Playtex bottles. No preference to any of them. I am at a loss. Also, on weekends should I encourage the bottles or just EBF. I don't know what to do. I need advice becuase this is making me and DH crazy and I hate to have my little boy screaming all day because he is hungry.

one thing I heard works is tell DH to position the bottle as if its his breast, and sit in the position you would to BF.

This happened to us too!
My ped. said it's not a big deal and that the baby will make up the calories once you get home.
Steve was home with Loey for 2 feedings/day and it was really becoming stressful because Loey would only take maybe 4-5 ounces all day instead of the 8-12 ounces he should have been having... but the ped said not to worry!

I am having a similar problem, it is SO stressful! A good friend of mines older DD never once took a bottle and she went to daycare--she said they fed her out of a cup (like open top) and eventually moved onto a sippy. My DS is a little older (6 months) and my ped advised me to keep working on the sippy, but it's still hard. One thing that has helped is making sure the milk is warmed thru, we have also used distraction (TV) in the past. My DS will sometimes take a bottle and then other times will just refuse and wait for me to come home!!

At 4 months do you think he is too young for a sippy cup? Should I try that? I'm worried sick that he isn't eating and DH is going nuts trying to get him to eat.

Re: Need help with BF baby that is refusing bottle when I'm at work!
Is your baby crying from hunger while you are gone? Or only crying when trying to resist the bottle?
DD1 fought and fought the bottle before I went back to work. Eventually she took it and did fine. We tried lots of different bottles, and she liked nuby the best.
DD2 never really complained about a bottle here and there and took any kind of bottle. However, now that I'm back at work and it's bottles every day, she barely eats while I'm gone. She has at most it seems 2 4 ounce bottles (so 8 ounces) in the 11 hours that I'm gone, and then she makes up for it while I'm home. She seems perfectly happy, so I havent forced it.

That is good to know that DD2 is fareing well during the day with 8 oz while you are gone for 11 hours. I have to ask DH how bad the crying is because I try not to discuss it because it is so upsetting to me that i am here at work and he is home crying. I am going to try the nuby bottles. Never tried them yet. I am so desperate here and I feel terrible like he is starving ...
