I went thru this with my grandfather almost two years ago, he had moved into my house three weeks before he died, hospice was called in...I have to urge you to go and see her, and tell her it's ok to go, and say goodbye, it's good closure for you, I know how hard this is, don't miss these last moments, she needs you now more than ever.

Jackie, I just wanted to tell you that I had some of the same fear when my mom was very sick. I lived far away and my dad didn't know if he should ask me to fly in or not. I was afraid I would remember her as sick and dying, but I don't. As someone else said, I remember her energy and her laugh and all the good memories I have always had of her. The illness was such a small portion of our time together that the memory of it faded fairly quickly after she died.
Whatever you decide to do, take care of yourself too.

Thanks everyone.
To top it all off, I just called my dad to wish him a happy birthday, and he told me he's going back into the hospital overnight tonight to have his leg drained. It became very swollen from all the medication he is on since his kidney transplant. Does the fun ever end???

I totally I agree with you about not wanting to see her in that way. When one of my grandmothers was nearing the end I went to her I said my good byes. She hung on for another couple weeks after that and I'm so glad I did it my way because when I saw she looked like she was peacefully sleeping and from what I hear she didn't even look like herself a couple of days after I saw her.
