Must be suitable for adults & kids and has to be able to be made in advance since I have to travel for an hour with it in the car

Re: Need ideas for an appetizer for large group
I have an awesome dip that I always make for parties ...
cans of chili (I use no beans but whatever you like) the number of cans depends on how much you want to make
tub of cream cheese (again, whatever you like, I use whipped Phili) and how ever many you will need to make enough .. I use two cans of chili to one tub of cream cheese
package of shredded cheese (I use sharp low fat cheddar)
in baking dish (I usually use 8 or 9x11 I think) add the ingredients .. 1st cream cheese then chili then shredded cheese.
just pop it in the oven when you get to where youre going and wait until the cheese melts!
So good! hth :)

Ha! Just made this over the weekend! But I don't want something that needs to be heated...want to be able to just put it out.

Re: Need ideas for an appetizer for large group
chopped chicken, salsa, corn, black beans - top with cheese, serve w/ scoops.
You can cook the chicken in the crock pot w/ the salsa, beans and corn and serve it cold.

Re: Need ideas for an appetizer for large group
You can do a cold yummy dip and just keep an ice pack on it. A mediteranean dip like this is delicious:
Spread a thick layer of hummus in a square pyrex (or something similar). Top with a nice layer of yogurt sauce (you can buy at Costco if you don't make it) and then put crumbled feta on the top. You can also add olives to the top. Serve with pita chips.
Another one I love is a Southwestern red pepper dip:
block of cream cheese a cup of antipasto roasted red peppers 1 packet (I use a bit less) Hidden Valley Ranch Powder
Blend in food processor and serve with tortilla chips.

Re: Need ideas for an appetizer for large group
My friend always makes yummy spinach dip in a bread bowl.
She also mixes together a can of corn, a can of black beans, a jar of salsa and BBQ sauce (maybe 1/3 of a bottle) and serves with tostitos.

Re: Need ideas for an appetizer for large group
What about a seven layer dip?
Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds ground beef 1 (16 ounce) can refried beans 4 cups shredded Cheddar-Monterey Jack cheese blend 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream 1 cup guacamole 1 cup salsa 1 (2.25 ounce) can black olives, chopped 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes 1/2 cup chopped green onions Directions
In a large skillet, brown ground beef. Set aside to drain and cool to room temperature. Spread the beans into the bottom of a 9x13 inch serving tray that is about 1 1/2 inches deep. Sprinkle 2 cups of shredded cheese on top of beans. Sprinkle beef on top of cheese. Spread sour cream very slowly on top of beef. Spread guacamole on top of sour cream. Pour salsa over guacamole and spread evenly. Sprinkle remaining shredded cheese. Sprinkle black olives, tomatoes, and green onions on top. You can serve this dish immediately, or refrigerate it over night and serve cold.

Re: Need ideas for an appetizer for large group
I made the Skinny Taste layer dip this past weekend and it was a HUGE hit. You would never know that it was a "light" recipe.
Super easy to make. It's also vegetarian (thought I would miss the meat but didn't at all!). Very light and refreshing - and even the guys loved it!
