Need opinions about bathroom remodel

We are having our ugly bathroom remodeled and need your help.

We know that we want white subway tile on the walls - but we don't know how much of it there should be. The bathroom is a small, squarish room with the basics - toilet, sink/vanity and one tub (alas, no shower stall and separate soaking tub for us).

We are able to get a vaulted ceiling and skylight in the shower/tub area. . . and we're planning on having the tiles pretty much go 8ft high or so - then we'll have crown moulding and paint above the moulding where the skylight will be (the ceiling in the shower will be around 12 feet).

But what about the other walls? Should the subway tile go the entire height of the walls, so that it is uniform? Should there only be like 4 feet of tile and then a chair rail, then paint above that?

Would it look weird if the shower/tub has a full wall of tile and the remaining 3 walls has half walls of tile?

Any suggestions are very much appreciated!!!!

My bathroom has white tiles part way up the regular walls and about 8 feet in the shower. There are no chair rails - there are rounded trim tiles to finish the look.

Re: Need opinions about bathroom remodel

My subway tiles in the shower go all the way to the top, with some decorative trim part-way up. We don't have subway tile in the bathroom itself but we do have wainscotting that goes half way up, which would be similar to the look you're describing with the partial subway tile.

Here are some links that might help you.
