need (possibly legal) advice...please.
So I needed a rental car when my car was in the shop. The day I got it but not at the time I drove it out of the lot I noticed a large dent on the rim above the tire. I remember the guy at the rental place getting a call from the guy washing the car and I assume he told him about the damage because he then proceeded to circle the part of the car that had the dent on the little picture of the car on the contract. What I didn't notice was after he did that he checked off the no damage box. Anyway, I return it to a different location and the attendant asked me what happened and I explained the car came damaged and it's circled on the contract. He says it's circled a little off and the circle was to let me know where to put my initials. I refused to sign anything he gave me. Now I'm getting letters from the rental car place with a damage incident/report attached and they're stating I need to fill it out and sign it or I can be held liable for the damage. I don't know what they're threatening because I'm pretty sure they're going to hold me liable anyway. My questions are:
1) What would you do in my situation; and 2) Do I really have to sign this form??
A big fat TIA to anyone who answers me!

I would try to talk to the person who originally filled out the paperwork. He/she should have made it clear if there was damage and where and should have had you sign it before you drove with the car.

Thank you for answering! I do plan on going to the original rental shop but I did initial where it says no damage so I think it doesn't really matter what he says because technically I could be held liable

I think it's a big misunderstanding since you returned it to a different location. Speak to the salesperson who rented the car to you. Don't sign anything!! GL!!
