he has been in the hospital for almost 2 weeks now. He was starting to do better but today when my mom whent to the hospital he started to have trouble breathing and my mom talked to his Dr. Although he had an order in his chart to intervate if necesary, lately he has been talking differently (my mom is his health care proxy) so the Dr talked to my stepdad. They have intervated. He also has an infection with 103 fever.
He suffers with pulmunary fibrosis and the Drs were talking about putting in a pacemaker next week.
ETA UPDATE: I just got a call from my mom....... My stepdad passed away tonight. She said it was very peaceful. She was at the hospital with my two step brothers and one of my brothers.
I went to the hospital today after getting a call from my brother that things werenot good at all (although I was planning to head there anyway).
He was pretty sedated when I got there but then they turned off the sedation & just kept the morphine on and he started communicating with all of us there especially my mom with hand signals and writing and said he wanted the tubes out now. He didn't want to do this anymore. We all understand this and fully respect his wishes.
When I left the hospital they were waiting for the Dr & the respiratory therapist to come up to remove the ventilator. They will then put him on an oxygen mask & nose tube then we will just have to wait & see what happens.
