I like the name Eleanor.
In my experience, Rowan has always been used as a boys name.

I picked Eleanor. Would you like the nickname to be Ele or Elle becuase that is the first thought that came to mind and I really liked the way that that sounded?

Rule number one - never run names by your family
I like Rowan, its pretty for a girl. Especially since I know you and can totally picture a little red headed girl :)

Re: Need so me help with off beat names for my girl :)
Congrats on your little girl!!
I vote for Rowan (isn't that Brooke Shield's daughter's name??) Rowan is definitely the most offbeat, hipster-esque of all 3 names you have in the running. It sounds to me like that's what you're looking for..
I do LOVE Rhea, however, it rhymes with Mia and Leah, which are pretty popular right now...If popularity doesn't bother you (personally I wouldn't care so much), then that's a gorgeous name.
Eleanor is cute-very vintage, plus you could call her Ellie or Ella for short.
Any of these names you pick are great, I will tell you that you've got 20 weeks of tons of deliberation that will happen..DH and I had a top 3 list of boy names, and funny enough, by the time we hit 30 weeks, it was our #3 pick that became our #1...and is STILL our #1 (Who would've thought??)
Just process them, write them down with your last name, and look at them written down for a while. You'll get a feel for which feels right for you and your DH.

Haaa thx-Harlow is my dream girls name, DH refuses, and alas, we're having a Maybe next pregnancy I'll try it again
I'm telling you, walk around with that top 3, you're going to keep changing your mind over and over again...it's exasperating-and then somehow, some way one will just feel right all of a sudden. Like I said, it was our #3 that turned out to be the perfect #1 for us.

I adore Rowan! I am with you on the off-beat, vintage names...the one DH and I picked for our is pretty unique! I would go against Eleanor, and the only reason for that is because I can almost guarantee it will be shortened to Eli or Elle...it takes the "vintage" part out of the name, IMO. All very pretty names as is though! .

I chose Rowan--I think it's very cute and unique!
There have been 2 Elinor/Eleanor's born that I know in the past few months so I think the name may be gaining popularity and wont be as unique.

Ditto. I know two little girls named Rowan; it's not as "offbeat" as you'd think.

I like Rowan!!!
Honestly, Eleanor sounds like an older ladies name (think eleanor roosevelt) although nickname Elle is pretty..
And Rhea I can only think of Rhea Pearlman. And that doesn't put a pretty image in my head, lol...but that is in MY head. Rowan is so so pretty!!

I can't even vote because I LOVE both Rhea and Eleanor. I wanted Eleanor to be in the running for our DD but I knew DH would never go for it.

Re: Need so me help with off beat names for my girl :)
I like names with historical meaning Rhea was the mother of Romulus and Remus the founders of Rome ( I am a big history buff) eleanor is just a vintage classy name I have loved for a long time and Rowan is gaelic for red berry tree ... My dh and I have spent weeks in Ireland and love the Gaelic language when we were in the deeper parts and Gaelic speaking parts

Re: Need so me help with off beat names for my girl :)
If you're worried about Rowan being popular, Another name you may like (it's in the same genre of "Rowan" in my opinion) is Harper.
It's a newer hipster-esque name with a vintage feel...and it does have historical symbolism (aka Harper Lee, the author who wrote "To Kill a Mockingbird").
Go on the Social Security Baby name list (I always find it through google)..you can search Most Popular baby names by state.
Just because a name might be popular across the country doesn't mean it's popular in NY.
Also-I think you would LOVE the website Nameberry. It's a baby nmae website but has so many unique names.

Oooh! I LOVE Rowan. DH was NOT on board. Our choice for DC#3 was Eleanor, but I wasn't feeling "Ellie" or "Elle." On the drive to the hospital we switched to Margaret. Then we had a boy.
The only person I've heard of with any of those names is an Elinor who is in my DD's Daisy Scout group.
