need some advice (a little long)

DH and i are talking about TTC #2 this summer. we would really like a late spring/early summer 2010 baby. as far as we know, we have no issues conceiving, so i know we are blessed to be able to even factor this into our planning (although i know that anything could happen at any time, i am just speaking form my experience with TTC #1).

i have posted before about not getting AF yet after DS was born. my OB said that it is probably the pill i am on, and i should stop taking it - i should see AF within 2 to 4 weeks after that.

the problem is that DH and i do not use any other form of contraception, and we won't consider it at this time.

so i do not want to stop taking the pill just yet.

the absolute earliest i would want to get PG would be early May, because my job's disability policy goes into effect on 1/1/10 (i am going to have a scheduled c-section one week before my due date so getting PG in April is not good because then i could potentially be having a baby in late December and i would not be covered).

i would really prefer to wait until June or July to TTC, but i guess i really don't care THAT much.

so when should i stop taking the pill? i want to get my cycles going to see where i am at (i have a short LP and i need to make sure i can get it long enough to get PG again).

any and all advice is appreciated. thanks if you got this far!! Chat Icon

Have you considered going off the pill and doing the tempting method to figure out when you'll be ovulating. Once you know the week you're ovulating, don't BD that week, and the other weeks you don't have to use anything.

Re: need some advice (a little long)

I would take the pill for another month and then go off. Try temping or ovulation kits and avoid Bding at that time until you're ready to TTC. And I am not trying to bust your bubble, truely I'm not, but I conceived DS very easily- right according to "plan." This time around we have been ACTIVELY trying for 7 months and still no baby. Maybe there is another pill that you can take? One with different hormones?

Re: need some advice (a little long)

I would go off the pill as soon as possible. I've heard of women who get pregnant right away once going off, and I've heard of others whose cycles take a couple months to regulate.

Can you not use condoms in the meantime? I know they make you feel like a teenager and can break the mood but it might be the best option.

I tend to agree because your body has not adjusted to having AF regularly since DS was born, I personaly would want to get off the pill and see how my body does before TTC.

this is what i REALLY want to do, but DH can't use condoms (he is not allergic, there is another reason, and i really don't want to get into that).

i am going to give it another few weeks and if AF doesn't show by mid-april i think i will just tell DH that i am going off the pill and i will start tracking my cycle then (CM, CP, temp) to avoid getting pregnant before we are ready.

i could but i guess the bottom line is i really don't want to - i would rather be off the pill completely, and go from there.

i would do this (and i think we'll have to) but i am afraid of that not working...

5 months and going good for us. Chat Icon You are only able to get pregnant when you ovulate, so any other time, you are good to go!

Re: need some advice (a little long)

Everyone gave you great advice. I agree with the temping and charting. I used it as birth control for a long time and never got pg (hopefully there are not other factors).

Also, I know you said your DH is allergic to condoms, some people who are allergic to latex can use the lamb skin ones. I know it skeeves some people out, but I thought I would throw that option out there.

I think that is a really great plan! Do you get O cramps? If not, I would avoid BDing all together from CD 10-20.

That sounds like the best option-knowing your cycle, temping and abstaining during certain times of the month until you are ready. That will also get you some good insight into your body for when you are ready.

I agree with Nicole. I'm not sure what your schedule with DC #1, but I know that I would find it really diffcult to find the time to take my temp, chart, etc. My DD already wakes me up early enough. I just can't see waking up even earlier to do all that, although I probably should since it's taking us awhile TTC #2. (our problem is that DH is away alot for work, I'm hoping that's all it is.) I do use the CBEFM though. I would use something like that if becoming pg too early would be a real problem, like it would be for you.

Good luck. Chat Icon here's some Chat Icon for when you're ready.

Re: need some advice (a little long)

I went off the pill in April 2008 to regulate myself and just charted to figure out my cycles. We started TTC at the very end of December that year and are on our 4th cycle of trying. I would go off of it now and just be careful for the next couple of months.

i would stop taking the pill. I think the earlier the better to hopefully get your body back on track. You can always practice the pull and pray method

I would go off the pill now and pull and pray. if you got pregnant right away you would be do end of december at the earliest. but in just a couple more weeks it will be early Jan. And to be honest - you could get pregnant in May and still have the baby in December if it comes early.

I would probably go with one more pack of BCP since April is definately NOT the month you want for insurance reasons.
