Need some input (updated..with more questions)
After getting a basic infertility workup done, we are dealing with low morphology and a possible blocked right tube (99% sure)...doctor has to get back to me with some information....he has mentioned IVF as a possible solution...I don't know if I am ready for that...
Please tell me that there is an inbetween...Is IVF the typical solution for my case? Should I get a second opinion on my next options?
Thanks in advance!
_______________________________ Thanks everyone for you feedback!
My doctor called me back today and advised me that my right tube was straight (and if it were sausage-like shaped, he would be more concerned about blockage). The dye went in the right side, but didn't come out and I proceeded to ask him why it never came out. He responded that he is uncertain and would have to do surgery to find out.. Yesterday, he recommended possible IVF because he said if it was sausage-like shaped, it would not be a good thing - possible blockage, I guess. Today, he said since it was straight, he wants me to try insemination (I guess because of dh's morphology issue).
Is insemination the same thing as IUI? He told me that all I needed to do is get my opk surge and call the office the next day to have it all done? Does this all sound right to you guys? I didn't realize that's all that went into insemination. I also couldn't get into it with him because I was at work with kids all around...
Thanks again!!

Re: Need some input..
I'm not sure but it seems like most people do IUI first and then move on to IVF.

Re: Need some input..
I am not medically savvy. I don't know what kind of options are out there for different types of issues. I would say if you have the means to do IVF without breaking your bank I would explore it, it won't hurt. If there are other possibilities I would explore them as well. I don't think that was the answer you were looking for but an input at least! BOTB

Re: Need some input..
I am not too sure with your case, but I do know that IUI is the step before IVF. However, given your circumstances, I'm not sure you're a candidate for IUI. I would definitely speak to your doctor and ask him. Good luck!

Re: Need some input..
I would say that IVF is the best option for you. Mosty because of the low motility factor. If you do IUI, they still have swim up the tube to meet the egg which is difficult with low motility. With IVF, they will do ICSI (inseminate each egg) so you will have definite embryo's to put back. IVF also has a much higher success rate than IUI - especially since you do have a blocked tube, so there's no chance of the sperm swimming up the wrong tube or the egg being picked up by the wrong tube.
Good luck!

Re: Need some input..
I lost one tube and the other is blocked. I was told IVF was the best option for me in order to minimize the risk of ectopic pregnancies (I've already had 2). IVF avoids the tubes completely, IUI does not. I am seeing the RE for the first time on Tuesday, but from what I understand it will likely be straight to IVF for me.

First of all, I wouldn't have surgery to find out what is up with your tube. Quite honestly you might end up doing more harm than good - lots of woman end up with lots of scar tissue which could further or create a blockage. That aside, usually IVF is the best option in general althought it is a very big step. Insemination is the same as an IUI. Quite honestly IUIs only increase your chances by something like 10%.
Insemination can be natural or medicated. What he is suggesting is natural. Medicated would mean being on clomid or some type of injectible fertility drug - than doing another injectible drug to bring on ovulation and then you have the IUI anywhere from 24-36 hours later.
Hope that helps! And good luck to you!

Re: Need some input (updated..with more questions)
I just wanted to add one or two things...
yes thats all that goes into IUI/insemination. Its actually a physically very easy process.
but I think you should have a sit down consult with the dr and make sure you understand everything 110% before doing anything. Get info written down, do some research, I feel being comfortable and educated about what your going into will help ease fears or worries sooo much.
Im sorry for your bad news. Its so devestating to hear.
Feel free to ask any questions here
