Re: Need suggestions for hot yoga place
Awesome!!!
I go to Hot Yoga Massapequa.
I have met a few people in my classes from that area who come down here because they feel it's one of the best studios in the area, and clean!
The website is hotyogamassapequa.com
When I have the time to go frequently, I pay for monthly unlimited debit plan which is $145.00 a month. This is the best deal.
I haven't been able to go as frequently over the summer, so I've been getting the 10-class pack which is $160.00.
I don't really go to any of the daytime classes during the week because of work, however, I have been going since Feb and think that at one time or another I have met most of the instructors and they are all good.
My favorite is Laura who teaches the Monday night 8PM class.
Patrick is the owner and teaches the majority of the classes.
I also really like Dana and Suzanne does a good class on Wednesday night.
I think most of the teachers teach at all the local hot yoga places.

perfect location, TY. I can't wait to try it out. It's one form of exercise I've never tried and have heard so much about.

that's what I intend to do, thanks. I didn't realize how expensive it is typically.

Re: Need suggestions for hot yoga place
The hardest part is to get over your anxiety and just try it out. The studio I go to is mostly beginners. I know I ain't no yoga rockstar.
Hot yoga you will see is a lifelong practice (I sound like a commercial) .
There are days where I find myself sitting out for some of the poses, and I still have a tough time with a few of them no matter what.
You just go and stand in the back row. No biggy!

Re: Need suggestions for hot yoga place
I agree with Allison about the Massapequa studio. I love it too and I have met Allison there. Just don't go in with any intention of doing every pose---they tell you the most important thing is to just stay in the room and for a while that is an accomplishment in itself. It is damn hot. Seriously, when I would get overwhelmed by the heat in the beginning I used to lay down, close my eyes and pretend I was tanning on the beach until the feeling kind of passed. My advice is to go as many times as you can those first 10 days by the end you will know if it's definitely for you or not. During the 10 day trial I went 7 times and loved it. What I really appreciate about the classes is that all types of people go---from muscular & fit to overweight & out of shape and everything in between and that goes the same with yoga experience level--there are beginners and there are the pros. I enjoy that part. No one there is perfect and people just don't judge one another. The way I feel and perform one day has nothing to do with how I feel and perform the next day. One day at a time....enough rambling on my part. Don't forget to update us after you try it!!

Re: Need suggestions for hot yoga place
in bikram (hot yoga is not the same because teachers don't go through the same certification process and i've heard the poses can be slightly different) the goal is to stay in the room for the full 90 minutes. Even if you only do one pose, as long as you stay in the room you've done well.
you must must must come well hydrated though or you won't feel well. don't eat right before class either.
Enjoy!

Where I go they all teach the same class and it is Bikram. I think most of the teachers have been through the training.

same with me; I think some places use the term hot yoga interchangeably with bikram... although there are some classes that are actually a hot vinyasa, depending on the studio (not where I go). I've only ever done bikram when taking a hot yoga class.

The words are not interchangable, though so long as you're enjoying yourself that's all that matters!

i know they aren't the same thing; i've just seen some places call it hot yoga, and when you take the class it's really bikram. I think it's annoying b/c bikram is a totally different practice and the only kind i like, so i'd rather they just say bikram.
speaking of, i need to get my *** BACK to bikram!
