NEED SUGGESTIONS: Outdoor locations for 1st Birthday
looking for casual - bbq food, salads, etc.
have access to town properties in Town of Smithtown, Islip, Brookhaven, Babylon, and Huntington.
already called:
Schubert Beach (Little Africa) - Town of Smithtown- available, but $10 PER CAR parking fee for non-residents. Parking has to be purchased in advance, no one to take $$$ at the gate.
Hoyt Farm (Commack) - Town of Smithtown - available 1 of the 2 days I wanted, would be sharing the pavilion with 300 members of the local Sons of Italy. Parking is $7 per non-resident car, and CAN be purchased at the gate.
Crab Meadow -Town of Huntington - totally booked all weekends in July/August.
Would love any recs, please!
Thanks
side note: how would you feel about paying for parking to go to a birthday party?
-I just called the town. If we go with Hoyt Farm, we can run a parking tab and pay it.

Sorry, I don't know about any parks.....About the parking - hmm...i may be slightly annoyed if I didn't know about it but if you tell ppl by word of mouth or in the invites, it shouldn't be be a big deal.

Re: NEED SUGGESTIONS: Outdoor locations for 1st Birthday
My niece had her Sweet 16 party at the Ronkonkoma Pavillion. It has a building in case it rains and a little beach as well. It was cute. I know her mother didn't have a huge budget, so i'm fairly certain it wasn't too pricey. I can find out more if you'd like!
I know Heckscher Park in East Islip does (did) parties - for a site fee.
As long as I KNEW there was a cost assigned for the parking I'd probably be a little.. , but I'd live with it. Isn't there a way to 'pre-pay' for parking for your party-goers?

I don't know anything about those parks but can weigh in on the parking situation.
My cousin had her son's Christening at Belmont Park. I didn't even realize it until my parents told me that we would have to pay for parking (my mom knows I NEVER have cash on me ). We were all sort of annoyed (parents, sister, etc) that we had to pay to go to their party. We went but we car pooled.

I don't think its that big of a deal if you tell your guests, we went to one and didn't know, thank god someone texted me that we needed to pay for parking and I stopped to get cash beforehand
Would you go to Mt Sinai? I've heard that Heritage Park is nice for parties

Not sure if the Ecology Center @ Holtsville is Brookhaven or not, but, maybe give them a try.

Diamond in the Pines (Coram-rte 112) has a really nice park with a great playground. They have a pavilion that you can rent for really cheap.

Re: NEED SUGGESTIONS: Outdoor locations for 1st Birthday
I don't have any suggestions, but wanted to say that I had DS#2 1st Birthday at Hoyt last August.
Not one person complained about the parking fee and I booked for a 100 people. I would suggest that you pay for the max amount of people you can, I believe it was $50 bucks..worth it in my opinion. I just put it in the evite that there was a parking fee, pretty much knowing that I really didn't invite anyone that could have a prob with it!
Also, The Loyal order of the Moose(I think that's what they call themselves , their Irish) were having their annual get together so I was concerned about the same as you, from my experience, no reason to worry. I found it to be less hectic if that makes any sense. Having 6 organizations/parties versus 3 I think works better. Not sure if I make sense but, Hoyt always books up, so to me it would be better that it's booked with less parties, but same amount of people...to me that's seems more organized. Basically I wouldn't worry about it!
All in all I would definitely recommend Hoyt! We have our family picnic/reunion every year there, and have never had a problem. Just remember that the day you have your party it is first come first serve for the tables so get there early enough, and have more than one spot in mind!

Re: NEED SUGGESTIONS: Outdoor locations for 1st Birthday
Nicole, belmont lake has a nice picnic/covered area area where you can BBQ & its covered in case of rain. DH had a work picnic there & said it was great. I believe its $150 to rent & then parking would be $6. a car.

Elwood Park on Cuba Hill Road in Huntington
I had DS#2's party there and it was great...the playground and fields are there to use and it has a covered picnic area.
Centerport Beach also has a convered picnic area - but look into it now...that books up fast!

Re: NEED SUGGESTIONS: Outdoor locations for 1st Birthday
I had DS's birthday party at Hoyt Farm. It worked out great. There were a few other parties going on at the same time, but it didn't matter. The kids had a great time running around. I felt funny asking people to pay for parking, so you just tell the people at the booth not to charge them and you pay at the end. I would do that rather than ask people to pay to park.

Re: NEED SUGGESTIONS: Outdoor locations for 1st Birthday
How about Scudder? It's almost never booked, a more private beach (save for the boat ramp), and it's free to rent and usually has more availability.
It's right on Northport Harbor.
DH has played down there for a 40th birthday party. We didn't have to pay for parking either.
