Needing your help because my OBGYN doesn't answer my questions
As some of you may have read, I have had a rollercoaster of a week. Wednesday night I got 3 Positives. Friday (after stupidly telling people) I found out one of my students had chicken pox and I came home early from work. I figured I'd play it safe and check and make sure everything was okay so I took another test and it came out negative. I went to the DR and they did a blood test for hCG and it was 16. Dr told me not to loose hope. So I didn't. Took another test Sunday and it said positive (A miracle? crazy hormones? I really don't know). So then Sunday afternoon I started spotting very light brown (sorry tmi). I think now that I have completely lost the baby because it is red.
My basic question- what could be wrong with my body that I am getting positives, then negatives, then positives and a day later losing the pregnancy! That can't be normal to fluctuate like that.
Thanks for your help

Re: Needing your help because my OBGYN doesn't answer my questions
Not sure, lots of us havent had any experience with BFPs.
If you feel like your OBGYN doesnt answer your qustions, you should find a new one.
did you use the same type of test? same time of day? It sounds like a chemical pregnancy, the levels got high enough to test positive but then the embro sort of craps out and the numbers go down.
Good luck!

Re: Needing your help because my OBGYN doesn't answer my questions
It really sounds to me like you had a bio-chemical pregnancy. Something was wrong and the pregnancy was not viable. This happens a lot, as someone else said earlier, but most people don't know cuz they don't test early. The reason you may be getting positives after negatives is because some tests are more sensitive than others. There are some tests that can detect an HCG level of 5 and others need a level of 25 or more(usually digital). I had this happen a year ago after an IUI so I know how you feel.

Re: Needing your help because my OBGYN doesn't answer my questions
Unfortunately it sounds like you may be having a chemical pregnancy(a miscarriage with low hcg numbers) If it wasn't for early pregnancy tests you would think you had a weird period. That being said as Rose posted-if your Dr does not answer your questions you need to find a new Dr. Having suffered through more than one miscarriage and being treated like sh!t for some odd reason does not help. Also it is normal with a non-viable pregnancy for the numbers to fluctuate up and down. GL and if you need a new Dr I'm sure many girls on here can recommend. Mine is in Suffolk if you are interested(Smithtown)
Oh wanted to add the sensitivities of the tests differ by brand and even per box. Check out Two Week Wait
So even if your tests are listed on here that they are sensitive to 20 miu they could pick up 16 occasionally.

You should find a Dr. You are comfortable. I had a M/C and my Dr. Sat with me for over an Hour explaining and answering any questions I had

You need a new doctor. How can he/she not answer these questions? That screams "Time to find a new OB" IMO.
Write all of these dates down. Find a new OB and go over this carefully. It was probably a chemical pregnancy but without a new beta you might know for sure.

Re: Needing your help because my OBGYN doesn't answer my questions
That sounds exactly like what happened to me with my chemicals.
I took two and got BFPs one morning. The next morning, same brand, got a BFN.
Then that night I took a digital - BFP.
Next morning I took another digital - BFN.
Two days later AF showed up.
My OBGYN didn't ever take blood from me and basically told me I was overreacting to the whole experience.
IMO - time to find a new OB.
