Neighbor left 2 cats behind, it's not working out in my home
We already have a house cat. She doesn't get along with other animals and she is older with health issues we stay diligently on top of. I took in a neighbor's 2 cats they could not take with them. They stressed my cat and we're fighting with her. I then put them in my finished basement and they are pooping all over despite us keeping the 2 litter boxes clean. We can't keep these 2 cats. One is about 12 years old, persian and the other the woman said was around 8 or 9 and she is a former feral that they took in. I looked at Last Hope's Website and you can tell they strongly discourage surrender of animals which I totally get. I'm pregnant with my third child in a high risk pregnancy so working toward finding a home for these cats is arduous and my husband is dealing with a disability. I read that if I bring them to the town shelter they could be put down and I would hate for that to happen. Any suggestions?

Re: Neighbor left 2 cats behind, it's not working out in my home
are these two cats friendly with each other? They may need another litter box (it is suggested that you have one for each plus one so three total). How long have you had them? They are probably stressed out themselves. Feliaway may work as well.
If these solutions dont work and you still need to rehome them, take their pictures and network them on facebook groups. Contact local rescues. Shelters are not good options, especially for the 12 year old who would likely have zero chance of adoption.
thanks for taking them in

Neighbor left 2 cats behind, it's not working out in my home
we found a cat in the neighborhood who was obviously dumped. we tried to find the owners via microchip and posters in the neighborhood. then, we made a list of like 20 different cat rescues/shelters and called weekly. finally, we got brookhaven to take him, and they apparently transferred him to kent. we had to pay the vaccinations, but they did the neutering.
if you live in enpt/ northport the grateful paw will probably take him.

You are being extremely kind and generous to have taken that on. I am not sure what to suggest. Just wanted to say, wow, you are so so kind.

Look into Bobbi & The Strays, The Long Island Cat Project, and Courageous Cats. You can also Google plenty of LI rescue groups that are not shelters.
