Nervous
I have my 3rd client meeting this year, and I haven't booked anyone yet. I really want to know what I am doing wrong, I guess I just don't know how to handle the sale aspect of the business world. They obviously like my work if they are coming to me...what am I doing wrong?! Suggestions/advice? How do you "land the deal"

Re: Nervous
I don't know what you do for a living, but DH is self-employed and 99% of the time when he doesn't get the job, it's because the customer is looking for a cheaper deal.
He's not in the business to screw over potential customers, but he is not looking to do work for free either which is what he sees with a lot of people who interview him for work.
The money for him though is in the big jobs with people who have money to burn, so that's his target audience.
Also word of mouth is how he gets most of his customers. Random people off the street are probably not going to go with him because they don't know him or his work.

Not sure what your career is but just
wanted to wish you luck and
PS: I was just laid off and asked myself

Re: Nervous
Sorry - I know it can be discouraging!
I don't know exactly what kind of business you're in, but when I transitioned from law to real estate, I had to learn a whole new way of defining success, because sales is a numbers game.
One thing that helps is to get feedback from potential clients who don't ultimately choose you. I know in real estate, people are surprisingly willing to let you know why they chose someone else (if you ask in a friendly, non-confrontational way, and say you are just seeking feedback so you can improve yourself). It may be something that has nothing to do with you -- such as they had a friend in the business or got a cheapr rate. Or you may find that it's something simple that you can correct, or add to your presentation. In any case, knowledge is power!
Good luck!

Re: Nervous
I'm afraid to put on here what I do for fear of being told I'm soliciting and get booted, but...here it goes...I'm a photographer, I LOVE what I do, LOVE LOVE LOVE it and if I could afford to do it for free I absolutely would, but gear costs $ as does insurance and stuff. People contact me because they like what they see on my website, and probably think I'm affordable. Which, for what I do I think I'm pretty moderately priced. I cannot land the deal. The client I met with last Sunday booked with someone else, and I really thought I was on point. I was prepared, confident, and really wanted to shoot their wedding. I know the market is SATURATED with people who do what I do but I'm beginning to feel that it's me as a person and less the quality or price of my work

Re: Nervous
I have actually sold photography and am in sales over 10 years.
Do you bring samples of your work? Do you talk about your style? eg for a wedding I would want someone who was punctual calming, etc. Are you priced fairly? Within the market?
